has anyone enrolled in the inaugural accelerated bsn class that started january 2009? what are your impressions so far?

You may have already considered this but I chose to do a private loan to cover my gap. The options are few.

I too am having issues with getting private loans. I got declined from a lender that approved me a year ago. Its harder to get loans now because of the economy. I think I will have to defer until the summer.

i'm a Remington student now (RCON in lake mary, fl) - i did a sallie mae loan and then had my gap covered by wells fargo.

i live iwth my parents in lake county (about an hour away) and i commute, so i'm not really sure about where to live.

honestly, if you're having trouble securing funding, wait and find a program that isn't so expensive. i wish i would have waited. once you're in and anything starts to go wrong, that huge sum of loan money hanging over head is really daunting.

that's what I did.... wait until I got to a community college (or a reputable accredited university like NSU). and now I have NO loans, and FA paid for most of my school expenses at my community college :up:

It was a year and 8 months that I waited to get a seat in the community college, applied december '03 and started the nursing program there at the community college in august '05....... but mean while I was working and saving money, and also going to school on scholarship to finish up any pre-reqs for RN-BSN program at my local university.

I say it's worth the wait,:nurse:

I think for some people it can be worth the wait! That's awesome that you don't have any loans. wow!!

But I also kept telling myself if I waited for a school that would push off graduation by years, you have to see that time as years of lost income. There's a local community college here, but they only accept application in February for an August start date, and only review applications with ALL pre-reqs completed. Therefore, I'd be applying next month and starting in August 2010. By August 2010 I will (hopefully) have already graduated!

I didn't have a tough time securing funding... but this is my first time ever using student loans. My first BA was paid for with 100% scholarship money. I didn't realize until I was already in the school how stressful the money component can be. I'm more scared of failing a class for financial reasons than academic (we have a zero tolerance and if you fail one class, the whole term gets scrubbed).

Timing is also very relevant to me, and due to my current personal situations, I didn't want to be in this area for another 2 or 3 years.

Hi all!

I just turned in my app packet for July, and the anticipation is already almost unbearable :). I'm finishing up one last pre-req which makes me even more nervous since I've been told that the applicants that have everything completed have preference. Is it true that they don't even consider your app if something is still in progress? I guess the only thing left to do is complete this last class and play the waiting game... for 5 LONG MONTHS!! I would love to hear from some of the current students. If any of you happen to reply, how prepared do you feel about being able to properly fulfill your duties as a nurse?

Well, I myself did not get accepted last July because I still had one more pre-req to complete. I did however get accepted in January, but we only had about a month to accept and secure funding and that was just not enough time for me. Plus I would of had to move and quit my job within the one month time frame they give you.

I would suggest not waiting around for your acceptance letter. I would start applying for scholarships and loans now if you don't already have your funding together. If you are comming from out of town I would also suggest reseaching the area and visiting the school beforehand.

I believe this time they will try to send out acceptance letters sooner.

I already live in Orlando so the only thing that I would need to do is secure my funding, which I'm hoping won't be too much of a hassle since I'm already on a private loan to pay for classes. Do you think that your acceptance was deferred based on that remaining prereq? Also, were you required to go through the entire app process all over again (new letters of rec, personal statement, background checks) to be considered for the following cycle?

I'm in the new Jan. class... just started today yay!

I had one more pre-req to satisfy, and the class wasn't finished until Dec. 15. I did get accepted to RCON prior to that date with the contingiency of successfully completing the class. So I wouldn't let that issue worry you too much!

i'm in the july '09 class (cohort 2) and i submitted my application last spring while i was still in my final semester of pre-reqs. i had to get my transcript sent to them ASAP, but it all worked out for me.

it was my understanding that once you submit an application packet, you may not have to re-do it if you defer, but i don't know for sure since i was accepted into the only term i applied for. its a pretty wacky program though, and since the school is SO NEW, lots of administrative stuff is unorganized to say the least. call up and ask to speak with someone, i know they're already talking about applications for july '10.

Thanks for the encouragement willow and rad sugar. I guess I'm just going to try to sit back and take advantage of this extremely light schedule that I have (I only have class once a week, yay!) because hopefully it will be a distance memory once July rolls around!
