Question about Nursing books

U.S.A. Florida

Published

I have a question for all of you nurses that went through nursing school (or are in nursing school at the moment). Next semester I'm going to be taking the nursing program at the junior college in my town, and I want to get a little bit of a head start on "nursing knowledge." I know the books probably wont be exactly the same, but if you could please tell me what books you had to study out of (exact names if you can remember!), then it would help me out SO much! Thanks a bunch!!

i go to bcc and the book we are using is fundamentals of nursing by potter

i will also recommend a good book that will help you prepare for nursing test questions: test success by nugent (its a really good book) hope this helps. what college are you planning to attend? :)

Hey Erika! Thanks so much for your reply....I'm planning to go to school at PJC (Pensacola Junior College)...i have to wait 6 more months though before I can get residential fees...so that kinda sucks, but that's what i get for moving across the country..LOL...it's okay though. anyways thanks for the reply!

you're very welcome. i would also suggest to visit your school bookstore and ask them b/c they would know the exact books you should be using or go online to your schools bookstore. if you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask.

I also used Fundamentals of Nursing by Potter and Perry

Nutrition and Diet Therapy by Lutz

Pharmacology for Nursing Care by Lehne

We have a few others for 2nd semester and dictionary and a nursing dx book. If you want those too I'd be happy to share the info.

i'm in my second semester. i'm handling everything ok. sometimes i feel burnt from all the studying, and overwhelmed with all the material, but once i get passed that i do ok. i study everyday also. i have done fluid and electrolytes. i'll be more than happy to help you.

thanks a lot!! tomorrow i am going to get a book for fluid and electrolytes. but if i have any questions i will write yaw back. its good to know some people that are going down the same path as you and know what you are going through... to help yaw along the way.:wink2:

Check out the books in the school library. They probably have the texts used in class and it would be FREE. Also, find out from the bookstore what is being used.

Potter Perry here also (Gulf Coast CC in Panama City)

If you haven't done it yet, I'd also recommend you get familiar with math for nursing (not particularly difficult but strange if you haven't used it) and study your med terminology (we were tested during the first 6 weeks on 300 terms)

Good luck,

Phil
