Nursing advice please

U.S.A. Florida

Hi I just applied to USF school of nursing upper division for fall 2012. I was told by the nursing advisors that a 3.7 GPA was the average admittance GPA from last year.

I was wondering if you guys think I have a chance I have a 3.75 GPA and a 3.8 science GPA I never failed any classes I withdrew pass from one class A and P 1 and later recieved an A. I wrote a strong personal statement. I have exprience because I have been a C.N.A. since 2008 and I have volunteered (I was told this voluteerism is not as important by an advisor) someone please reply I'm so excited to hear your replys. oh I recieved one C in human growth and development...Thank You!

I think it all depends on the number of applicants who have higher GPA's than yours. I know my school goes from 4.0 and works its way down until all the spots are full for each program. So depending on how many students apply....the cut off could be anything.

I have a coworker who apllied get in with a 3.4....so you never know.

Good luck to you!

Do you feel that your essay is more compelling and inspiring than 90% (?) of the other applicants? In my experience with OHSU, GPA and experience didn't always beat out excellent writing skills. Good luck and fight hard for what you want.

My school also starts with the 4.00 GPA's and works down. Only we have weighted courses (Micro, A&P 1 and 2, Sociology, Human Developement, Eng 101, and a couple others) that are really looked at. A 3.7 in those weighted courses was the cutoff for our program last year, but as someone said above, it all depends on the quality of applicants for your particular program.

I will be waiting for my admittance letter after finals next week, so I will be in the same boat as you - waiting, waiting, waiting. Try to relax as much as you can because at this point it is out of your hands. Of course I will be a nervous wreck for about two weeks, lol. Good Luck to you!

@newbtonursing thank you!!! I have my fingers crossed USF is very competitive but so am I :)

@tigerlogic thanks for the reply I believe I wrote a strong personal statement that vividly expressed why I love nursing, experience and academic skills..it was unique.

@blacktalon06 thank you and good luck as well!!! I think my application looks great but as you stated you never know...thanks for the reply let me know if you get in!!!
