MDC GPA Info on getting in :)

U.S.A. Florida

Hey all..

So I just got home from visiting the medical campus advicement @ MDC. According to the advisor, it definately is ALL CUM based, and the cut off point is 3.6 (that's what it was last year, and he said it should be about the same for this Fall). He also said that if you have a 3.4-3.5 you might have a fighting chance. Best thing to do is retake ANY F's or D's that might be bringing down your GPA (even if not Nursing pre-req related). So I have a 3.34 and 2 F's in SYG2000 from the year 2001! I have to scatter now and retake those asap, during the mini term so I can apply for this Fall.

hey i just wanted to say good luck i'm also applied for the aug semester for this year. right new im just playing the waiting game until may it sucks but i have chem to keep me occupied i was considering getting some of the shots done and other stuff out of the way but im not 100 percent sure of what u will need once accepted do you know ?

I do know what you need b/c I am a 2nd Semester NS at MDC. Take my advice and don't get any shots or anything like that yet. I am not being rude at all, but If you don't get in you will be wasting alot of money. ALOT of money. Plus, your Dr., NP, or PA has to sign off on everything when you get it done, they have to date and sign papers that you have to turn into MDC. You need to know 100% before doing anything and plus some of the things that you need done have to be within 3 months of your first day of NS.

Good luck

hey southernash how are you doing so far? how much time do spend studying a day do you work what was first semester like how much did you spend on books and supplies etc seth pens sorry i;m going a little crazy but ive got tons of questions when you have a chance can i pick your brain?

FutureRN1976,

I was also considering the RN program at MDC. I'm curious as to the specific pre-reqs they have..such as that psychology of personal effectiveness, computer competency exam, sociology, etc. Do you know if we are we required to take those classes to get into the nursing program? Or if they can be taken during? I hope you get into the program!

Thanks in advance,

  • BSC 2086 and 2086L*

:mad:Thank you!

Im sorry it has taken me so long to get back with you. I know you asked me some questions. No, I don't work. I can't imagine working while trying to do this but, I have some friends in school who are somehow able to pull it off. But, even if they were working full time they have all changed over to part time. But, some of them have quit all together. How much did I spend on Books and supplies the 1st semester? My Steth was $100.00. My B/P cuff (which is not required but comes in handy) was $20.00. My books alone were about $800.00. Tuition was over a $1,000. I can tell you this. I am only in my second semester and I already have student loans that are over $4.000. You asked how much time I spend studying a day? Well, that varies. Like yesterday was before 2 huge tests so I studied all day long. But, Tomorrow I will have all my tests that are pressing out of the way and I probably won't study much at all tomorrow afternoon. Hope this answered some of your questions.

Any of you hopefuls applying to the accelerated option in fall?

Nursing school is scary and hard, and they really like to play strict, they don't care if you are about to jump over a cliff, you better get everything done and walk on the line or you are out.

If you work hard and you do everything it is ok, and you will pass, but the thing is that nursing school is so hard sometimes. My third semester is coming up (if I pass everything, because sometimes you never know) and for next semester you have to be in the hospital for 12 hours twice a week. That is fine if it was the only thing I had to do, but what about all the studying you need to get done? It is insane!

P.S Med-surg is hard, but not the hardest class in nursing school like I thought, take Marie Etienne and you should be fine. She provides a lot of study materials and even gives study guides for most of the test which help sooooo much. I think the last test everyone passed and only one person failed the exam!!!!!!!!!!! AWESOME!
