LPN's in Florida Hospitals

Hello,

I just moved here from California and am going to start school to become n LPN. I would love to go for my RN but my unemployment center from CA is going to pay most of my tution if I go to school and finish in 1 year so I want to take advantage of that.

My concern is, over here in Florida it seems that hospitals are phasing out LPNs. In California they are in high demand at hospitals. My goal for pursing nursing, besides to care for people because i love doing that, was to find a job that i can work part time or 3 day 12 hour shifts to be home more with my kids. If hosptials in Florida arent hiring LPN's then whats left, just nursing homes? And if so, do they have part time or 3/12 shifts?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

They go through phases here in Florida where they try to phase them out but there aren't enough RNs to go around and eventually they hire more LPNs.

Where I work there currently is one LPN position available and dozens of RN positions. While they are not being phased out, finding a hospital job as a new grad LPN might be a challenge depending on where you are, and the luck of timing. It's not unheard of though.

On the other hand LPNs rule the nursing homes around here and jobs with varying shifts are aplenty and pretty well paying. Good luck!
