IRSC ADN Applying for fall 2013

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hi.Anyone out there applying for fall 2013? There are changes this semester and was wondering if anyone knows what kind of score we may need on the NLN to have a chance at a spot. The application packets aren't available yet and I'm getting anxious! Anyone know when the will put them out?

@ LBM1979 Congrats on making the alternate list! I was an alternate too and got accepted at the last minute. Just remember to not miss ANY meeting or deadline ... you have to progress as though you are part of the program. I also suggest that you order your polo shirts at the orientation meeting with everyone else. It takes a LOT longer to get a small order made than it does for the big order for the class. Hang in there nd good luck!

CONGRATS to all those accepted to the new Fall 2013 ADN class! Get some rest now ... you'll need it! :cheeky:

@PDowling thanks for the advise and encouragement! I already have everything I need shots, cpr etc. All but the physical.I was accepted to a school in WV but had to move so I am def. planning on going thru like I am already in. It is just such an emotional investment I will be crushed if I dont make it! I was wondering if u ever found out about the alternate list for your class once u got in/ How many there were and how many actully got accepted? I am so anxious!

@LBM1979 No, they guard that information like it was a classified military secret! I still dont get it....

I sure hope you make it ... I know that feeling and it stinks! After you go thru all the meetings, jump thru all the hoops ... fingerprinting, drug testing, background check (another non refundable expense - $100.00) etc and there is still no guarantee, it's a bit unnerving. But FYI they can still call you in right up to the second day of class.

i think i got accepted. im not entirely sure lol it says "Congratulations! Indian River State College (IRSC) is pleased to inform you of your provisional acceptance to the Fall 2013 Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program."

does provisional acceptance mean im on the alternate ? attached with my email is also the ADN response form..

CONGRATS johnnyvirgo .... You're in!

The "provisional" terminology refers to you still needing to pass a drug test, background check, physical etc.

Welcome to the ADN program!

*happy dance* B-) love it. I went to the information session today guys

turns out they've changed it (yet again)

MicroBio is no longer a requirement. As a matter of fact, one of my friends got into the program as well, and he is still currently taking microbio so his points weren't even counted toward his final score.

They said microbio is used if there are applicants with identical stats, micro is a tie breaker, followed by lpn/rrt/medic, then theres all the unofficial considerations they don't mention to you

The lowest score so far that Ive heard someone be accepted with this go around is 156. If you/anyone you know has gotten in with a lower score, post it up to give others an idea of where they stand!

Good luck to you everyone, look forward to meeting you all

@PDowling do you have any idea when the provisionally accepted students complete the drug test, background check, and physical?

@PDowling

Sorry that we're all bombarding you with questions haha, do you know if the TOTE bag is absolutely necessary ? I heard it was filled with goodies and whatnot but i already have a stethoscope and whatnot and was simply wondering if the dressings and IV startkits and such would be provided for us already in lab or is it imperative that we get it from the school? $130 seems steep for just practice materials that i'm already familiar with..

@scott5989 They will give you the exact dates during the mandatory meeting that you need to have them done by. We had a choice of two or three days the week right after the meeting to get the fingerprinting done (right near the school), and I think they gave us till that Friday for the drug testing....they dont want anyone to be able to prepare for it I guess. You will have like a 10 day window for your physical - that should be about 4 weeks before your start date. They also have a specific date for your CPR so you are covered the whole 2 years you are in the program. I had 7 months left before mine expired and had to take it again anyway. They don't want to have to track who is due for renewal.

@johnnyvirgo I am so darned happy to be done with Fundamentals that I dont mind passing on any info that might help. I hated all the unanswered questions. Yes, the Tote is absolutely positively necessary. We used those materials throughout fundamentals lab and still have some supplies to utilize in future labs. BTW, There is no stethescope in it.

Hi Guys, I got my email Monday but didnt open it until Wednesday. I was put on the alternate list, which made me bawl! lol I dont know if it was from actually being put on the list or the fact that Im severely pregnant right now. Either way I was sad but I had to look at it as it wasnt a no. Im going to fill out the alternate form and hope for the best. This all I have ever wanted to do. Congrats to everyone who has made it in. I know you all worked really hard. If i dont get in this time, I hope to get in next term. :)

Does anyone know if we are put on the alternate list in order of score? Or its just they send an email out to those who are alternates and its first come first serve when a position opens?
