How to get a Health Related Job? ?

Hi everyone,

I will be beginning my journey to becoming a Nurse very soon. I'm starting with a LPN before bridging. But in the mean time how does one go about getting a Health related job?

Like a Secretary or something in the field to help start networking for when I'm a nurse?

I'm in Orlando if anyone is curious.

You best bet- and the one that will help you out as you pursue nursing - is to become a CNA first. PLENTY of jobs, and you learn how to deal with and care for patients. Being a CNA can open many, many doors. Secretarial may give you face time with health care providers, but does not teach you anything about nursing. There are 100 CNA jobs for every secretarial position.

Do you think I can challenge the CNA test after I pass the healthcare worker portion of the lpn program?

I actually found the answer on the FBON website.

I can. So I'd assume after the 90 hrs of basic health care worker is when I can do it right?

I have no clue- I've been a nurse since decades before NAs were certified. I'm sure someone else will know that answer for you. Good luck!

From what I understand, it has to be 75 hours of nursing aide training/work, not just any type of healthcare related work. The process seems to be quite similar to that of becoming an MA--you have to have completed an approved training program prior to being allowed to sit for a certification exam.

Additionally, I've personally worked in the healthcare field as a secretary, and you do, in fact, get exposed to a lot more than you would think. Make it known that you are pursuing furthered education in the healthcare field, and you never know what type of opportunities could be offered. I was offered to advance into a "shadow" MA with no clinical training under my belt--my only training is in healthcare documentation.

Even just secretary work will get you exposed to patient care, and I feel that's the main thing. Hope that helps and best of luck!
