Where did you get your titers done?

I called the Pasco county health dept and all the shots would be around $275. I went to my primary and had a physical with them. They did the titers and let me know which ones i still needed to get. If you guys can run it through your insurance company, you will save a TON of money. I just had to pay the office copay.. woo hoo!

Are we all ready for Day #2? There was a lot of interesting info yesterday - especially what to expect in each Nursing Process class.

I enjoyed meeting my fellow nursing students yesterday in rows 4 & 5. I am also anticipating meeting everyone in Dale Mabry Mornings. Maybe our faculty will give us a tour of the facilities and labs. See you in two hours!

I don't know about you guys but today was nuts with trying to register! I still didn't get mine done due to restrictions on my account. :(

I wanted to let you guys know that I am setting up a private FB page and if you are interested in being part of the PRIVATE Page, PM me and let me know your face book name and I will add you to the group. It will be a great place to check in with each other and help each other along this path we are taking :)

that is awful! Did you ever get to enroll? I had a hold on my account for orientation for the school. I am hoping that 2 days of orientation will cover that and my file can be released...

My problem at first was the same as the others, then that was cleared out. Next mine and about 4 others had a "Prerequisite not met" error and we had to hang around. They were routinely clearing out peoples holds and kept telling us to do it over and over again. Then they just had to register us themselves. So yours was a HCC orientation hold? If it's still not fixed by the weekend, try and do the HCC live chat function or give them a call, I think that they have tech support on the weekends. If they aren't able to help you, you can try sending an email to the nursing department and they should be able to clear you out. I hope you can resolve it soon! In any case, your spot in the class is reserved so no one will be able to take it!

Hi, i still didn't register for classes today. My webadvisor shows i have a financial aid restriction and i have to go to the admission/cashier office. When i went to talk to them today after trying to register in the computer lab they were closed. So now i have to wait till Monday to try and and clear up the problem. Did anyone else have my same problem? I really hope they give up my seat. It looks like its a mistake from Financial aid because i called fafsa and they said all my records for this year looks fine and i don't owe anything, they told me to go talk to our schools financial aid or cashier directly.

Hi all,

Looks like I found your thread just in time. I see you all just wrapped up with orientation :) I just spent a while reading your posts and it brought back so many feelings I had not too long ago...it actually made me laugh at how similar I felt when I was going through this process. I'm three weeks away from finishing my first semester at the South Shore campus. I can tell you, all of your worries/emotions/frustrations are normal. We've all been there and have felt the same so do not feel as if you are alone. As far as registration after orientation, it was a nightmare for everyone. It's really a huge mess if you ask me. Each student is coded based on the campus/time they're assigned to...if something is slightly off, you can't register. Keep pestering them with emails until it is fixed, that's what I did and within a few days of going back and forth with emails, it was fixed and I was registered for NP1.

As many people have said on here, I cannot stress it enough...spend as MUCH time as you can relaxing before this journey starts. I wasn't going to post anything as I think many others have covered it...but I will say this, after reading a post about "divorcing" families while you're in school, etc, etc. I know it is not the same for everyone but I have heard many, many people say they have no life outside of nursing school, no social life...solely nursing school. I chose NOT to make that choice. Yes, I know, even in orientation they tell you that you won't have a life. However, I feel that you need time with family so you don't get SO consumed in nursing school that you get burnt out before you really get into it. I'm not saying I've not given my first semester my all, because I have. I simply have learned how to manage my time to spend time with mostly my family, my friends understand and can wait until I have breaks. Your family is your support system, you need them, so don't completely cut them out of your life during school! Learn to manage your time, get everything done on time, get your reading done as soon as possible (I wouldn't really start reading now...it'll get too overwhelming, you REALLY need to take this time to relax and be with your families. Do make sure you stay ahead on reading in school though)...get all of that stuff done so you CAN have time to spend with your families.

If you are just too eager to get started, I'll suggest a book to you that I purchased and read before class. It's not a required book or anything you'll use, it is just something that was suggested to me. I bought it, read it before school started, and think it was beneficial for me personally. Though I had no idea about a lot of things in the book, when I got into class and we started discussing those unfamiliar topics, I had at least read it before and was a little familiar with it. It's called Nursing Fundamentals Demystified, you can get it on Amazon, here's the link:

Nursing Fundamentals DeMYSTiFieD: A Self-Teaching Guide (Demystified Nursing): Bennita Vaughans: 9780071495707: Amazon.com: Books

Good luck to all of you as you start this crazy, yet rewarding journey! Remember to RELAX and enjoy your life as you know it...it's going to be quite a change in just a few months :)

Thanks for the post it means alot to have someone from the last class coming on here. I'm like you, choosing to find a balance between the two. At orientation, they really have backed off the "scary" talk. They even brought a student counselor in to talk to us about stress and time management. At know point did anyone talk about having no life or anything like that. For the most part, I found the staff to be quite encouraging and optimistic. There was a lot of "when you guys graduate" not "IF you guys graduate". They even were telling us to speak up early and often about difficulties so they can get us help if need be.Nobody told us it was going to be easy, but it wasn't them trying to scare us. They stressed the importance of good professional practice during clinicals. I found the staff very helpful and dedicated to our success. That being said, it's up to us to seek out that help if we need it. But, besides registration, I had a mostly positive orientation.
