Hillsborough Community College Fall 2012

U.S.A. Florida

Anybody applying ...? =)

The friends I have in the program say its a lot of studying and that not everyone passes. Also the nursing classes are 10 credit hours And 12 is considered full time for pell grant. I'll be taking the easiest prof/class I can to make up that difference. This fall it will be ethics and I hear it's easy, and the prof is nice and helpful. You also need to make sure you have your eng ii and elective to graduate. Rivera for lifespan was awesome - I think he's at SS and Ybor.

Ok sounds good. I think I might take an additional class at USF per semester so that I can have the full time designation as well. I think I can take a Public Health class online while im doing the nursing thing. Ive already completed my AA in liberal arts at HCC so I think im good as far as electives at HCC go but Im thinking of taking classes at USF during the summers so that I can finish up my BA and ASN around the same time.

I recently got my fingerprinting and a background check done about a month ago because I registered for a class at the MacDill AFB and they require all students to perform a background check through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement before getting base access. It cost only $24 but took approximately 2 weeks.

I emailed the director asking him if it was alright to turn in the same fingerprinting card to the nursing program. Hopefully it's ok because I don't want to go ahead and pay another $50 for doing the same thing I did at the sheriff's office and end up getting the same results.

Random question to everyone.... What is (is there) the policy regarding visible tattoos? Mine are non offensive (all nature related) cover on clinicals? Not allowed??? I know plenty of nurses with sleeves... Just wanted everyone's opinion and input... THANKS!!

Hi Everyone

I am an alternate. I have a 3.57 GPA. I've looked on the other semester boards and couldn't find out the number of alternates that usually get in. Also, does anyone know when alternates find out?

dlr85, I went in today to find out about alternate seats as I have one myself. She told me that they'll try to get alternates informed before orientation in June. It's just a waiting game for us now. But things can always happen after orientation with those that already have seats and then they'll continue contacting alternates. So who knows when any of us could get a letter...anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. :(

It seems like the alternates all have the same GPA of 3.57. I went back to fall of 2011 thread and all of the alternates got in some before orientation, one the day before orientation and one person that got a decline letter ended up getting accepted. They did come to the conclusion that there were a certain # of alternates, and the GPA was also 3.57 for the alternates of 2011! If I find the info I will post it very soon.

I am an alternate with 3.57 and I think I spent 2 hours going through the 90 or so pages of the fall 2011 HCC thread on here. :) I had to spend the time doing and I am glad it did it gave me a little piece of mind. Hopefully we will know before orientation. Please post if you here anything and when and I will do the same. We have to stick together. We better all get in or else...! :) I believe we will.

I have a 3.67 and was given an alternate. What I had hoped was an error...was not. The cut-off for this fall was a 3.71, and from what I was told today, that's the highest it has ever been. But they did say not to give up hope, that so many people either give up their seat, fail to get things done by the deadline, don't attend orientation, or do not pass their background check/drug test. So don't give up hope!

I, too, have read the forums on here, lol. I followed the fall 2011 and spring 2012 threads. It kept me busy while I was waiting to hear back from HCC. Good luck to all of the alternates patiently waiting! :)

hello, I just started the nursing program in spring. You have to cover up your tattoos for clinical. I just wear a long sleeve shirt under my scrub shirt and that seems to work out for me! Hope that helps :)

Becky

hello, I just started the nursing program in spring.

are you working part/full time? and how are you paying for it? the loans/financial aid i qualify for are not going to be enough. ...

I'm working full time during the day and go to the program at night and weekends. If you are going to HCC they give everyone financial aid who applies, however you may have to pay it back if you don't qualify for pell grants, which is my situation.

I have been accepted. I got a seat. I have a question & no time to run through the thread. Does anyone know if we can change requested location & time? I originally put down SS campus for day program; however, I would like to do the night/weekend at PC campus if possible. Any thoughts, suggestions, or the likes?
