Hillsborough Community College - Transcript Requests

Any former HCC students out there with experience to share?

I submitted a transcript request form a couple weeks ago through Hawknet....and well.......it hasn't been processed yet. :confused: I've personally ordered enough transcripts in my day to know that it's a simple thing (takes about a minute) to print a transcript, put it in an envelope, seal it and forward it on..... Unfortunately, given my experience with administration at HCC, I'm more than a touch concerned.

HCC's transcript request form references a processing time frame of 5-7 days, while the website provides that "[t]he College will try to respond to transcript requests within two weeks." :lol2: Other schools I've attended either have immediate/online transmission of transcripts or the forms indicate a two day processing time frame. Some don't even charge for this service.

I guess my question of those w/ experience is.............Should I be worried? Did you have to contact the admissions/registrars office several times to get routine requests processed? If so, would you recommend I start now?

I don't know about their timeliness in sending transcripts. But I had my transcripts SENT to HCC from other schools and my profile still says they didn't receive them.

Sadly, I have the same story. In addition to applying other places, I applied for the Fall 2010 ADN program at HCC a couple weeks ago. I hand delivered all of the necessary docs (a completed application, background check form, my check and several transcripts). Alas, my check hasn't been cashed and the documents page on Hawknet hasn't been updated.

I had someone from administration on the phone tell me that they had no idea where the online (Hawkmail) address change option requests went and that she would recommend that I did it in person. I'd probably guess the same should go for your transcript request :(

Wow! :eek: What the crap?!! Umm, thank you so much for letting me know that. I will take my happy self up to the campus tomorrow. Whoosh!

I seriously hope they have an idea where the transcript request fee they already took out of my checking account went, though...... :rolleyes:

Sharing this as I'm sure several more students will likely run into the same issue w/ HCC for years to come:

Just hung up the phone (I held for an eternity (for me, > 30 minutes) after beginning my call at 8 this morning). I explained my transcript request concerns to the rep who answered and after providing my student ID #, she put me on hold again while she chatted w/ someone else in Admissions.

Apparently, I am in their system. However she advised me that they are so bogged down w/ requests, they have been unable to get to mine. LOL! :rolleyes: She indicated that despite all of the things they have to do, they will most definitely mail my request out on Monday.....

Umm.....yeah.....I call shenanigans. I have no doubt my request would have been "lost" for several more weeks if I hadn't called.

(As a side note: While speaking w/ the HCC rep, she indicated to me that as my institution of choice no longer accepts electronic transmissions of transcripts, HCC would have to mail them. Well, I know this to be incorrect and decided to politely share my knowledge w/ the bogged down rep. She assured me that I was incorrect as they'd received a "memo" from that institution disputing what I'd just shared. Um...ok.

So........I called that institution just now (one minute after they opened) and didn't have to hold at all. (Weird eh? :rolleyes:) The rep and I chatted briefly and when I mentioned HCC, she just sighed. She informed me that unfortunately, HCC never sends transcripts promptly and when they finally get around to it, it is typically done incorrectly. (I so hope that doesn't apply to me....we shall see, yes?) She advised that (as I live in Tampa) it would be best for me to go pick up a hard copy of my transcript to send in).

Well..............there you have it. You just have to laugh at folks, paid to do a job they are notorious for screwing up. Whoosh!!!

Happy Friday, folks! ;)

Ha HCC is administration is a joke. The first transcript I order it was mailed to me the next day. Boy do I wish I ordered all of them that day. Next time it took two days and someone changed the address I submitted. I called the college they actually received but I was still pissed someone would actually change the address I submitted. The last one took a week and I had to call, call, and beg them to do it ASAP. When I submitted that last transcript online I had to place DO NOT CHANGE ADDRESS.

I have never in my life encountered the type of issues at this community college. My experience with HCC has left a bad taste in my mouth regarding community colleges ability to do anything right. I wish I would have went back to my Alma mater USF than attending classes at HCC. I am taking my last two classes to transfer on somewhere ASAP. The financial aid department is poorly organized and ran, especially the Dale Mabry campus. I have to have advisors add me to classes freshman can take lol. I have never ran into teachers that are strict on attendance. This school is the pitts :down:.

i received more info this morning which i thought i'd share as a benefit to those who may be interested now or in the future. currently, the transcript request person at hcc is a part timer....she's also a student. that, in and of itself explains a great deal (at least to me). what in the world??!!! :confused: poor thing...:( i just spoke to her and she seems like such a sweet young person....trying to do her job the best way that she can.

here is what she shared:

although it would seem that hawknet requests (which are online) would be seamless/handled immediately or at least, a great deal faster than other requests (especially if the online request is for an online/electronic transmission to another institution), that is so not the case.

(a) in person requests are first (and until hcc gets it together, i would recommend that everyone make in person transcript requests);

(b) mail in requests are handled next (why? i have no idea :rolleyes:);

© hawknet request are handled dead last (note: hawknet requests are printed out from webadvisor on fridays only...so if you request a transcript on monday, it won't even be acknowledged until friday...boo. :mad:. i would so love if hcc would note that somewhere...ummm...anywhere on their website or on the transcript request forms so that students would be aware of this.)

honestly, i find this to be completely insane....however, i do not at all fault this young part timer. although she is definitely way behind in processing my request (again, it's been over two weeks), there are real issues here that have nothing to do w/ her. case in point.....the "memo" relating to not sending out transcripts electronically was generated by hcc personnel (higher ups) and this girl has no choice but to process transcripts accordingly.

:banghead:

for the life of me, i cannot understand why hcc is so badly run. to compare....(1) i have requested a transcript from another community college in the tampa bay area. their transcript request forms can either be faxed in or hand delivered. the forms indicate a processing time of two days or less (no fee). i faxed in my request a week or two ago and that same day, it was taken care of. (2) i requested a university send in my transcripts, electronically. i paid my fee (fee implemented only a year or two ago) and my request was processed immediately.

going back to school after a lengthy break was a bit scary, but i seriously loved all of my professors at hcc. i can not say that about hcc administration, however. hcc administration = special. :lol2:

^^ Thanks for that info. Your home campus must be Dale Mabry. My home campus is Ybor. I'm not sure how they ended up my home campus when I lived 1.5 miles from the Dale Mabry campus at the time I filled out the application this summer.

Too bad I took care of my financial aid at the Dale Mabry campus. They would not transfer my paper work to the Ybor campus. Before the last add and drop date, I stopped by the Ybor campus to see had my loan funds paid my tuition yet. I wanted to double check because the last time I looked at my account nothing had been paid which was really strange. Just the week before I charged a book to my account at the bookstore. When I spoke with the bursar the girl informed me my loan had been canceled. I talked to an Ybor advisor who informed me that I should be good to go and need to head over to the Dale Mabry campus. Some moron at the Dale Mabry campus canceled my loan the day before and managed to leave NO NOTES as to WHY it was canceled, mind you I went full time Fall 09, and got 5 A's and a B last semester. The advisor gave me a tip that once you get over 24 credits as a Allied Health major you may be restricted from classes, I however only have 18 credits. She put my account on hold so I would not be dropped from any of my classes. She advised me to change my major to Pre-Med which I did just in case before I left Ybor. I still don't fully understand that logic but whatever. I was pissed off to say the least, I had to drive down to the Dale Mabry campus wait 45 minutes in a room with other angry people. No one I repeat NO ONE could explain why my loan was canceled the day before. The girl sent someone an email gave me a copy of what she sent asking them to undo the cancellation. I will be emailing the folks who she emailed because I need a freaking explanation as to WHY I could have been dropped from all my freaking classes had I not paid attention to my freaking Account :mad::mad:.

Love your use of "freaking"....:D. It gave me a chuckle after a long day.
