Grad RN offered jobs in West Palm. What should i take?Worked at any of these hospitals?

Hello Everyone!

I am New Grad RN, BSN from Boston. I recently relocated to West Palm Beach. I have had a few hospitals and facilities contact me for interviews/ offer me positions. I am seeking a position that would promote personal growth, learning and further enhance my nursing skillset. My ultimate nursing goal is to get into the ER/ICU.

The facilities/hospitals that have contact me are:

-Saint Marys Medical Center: Turner 3 Medical Surgical unit overnights (7-7)...did not specify how many hours a week

-VA Medical Center: General interest in me. I currently volunteer there.

-Good Sam Medical Center: General interest in me

-Vitas Hospice: General interest in me

Does anyone know about any of these facilities? Nurse to patient ratio? I have been trying to do my research, but i am having little luck. I seem to find the patient side of the story, not former/current staff experience.

Also, given my 'qualifications' (bellow) can you think of any other places that may be a good fit for what i am looking for?

-New RN BSN, ACLS, BLS, Spanish speaking.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Hi and congrats on graduating! My first choice would be the VA, but let's see...St.Mary's is a trauma hospital with both an adult ED and peds ED; Good Sams is good for certain specialties but not known for their critical care (more OB and sx); and I have never heard of Vitas Hospice. Are you interested in Hospice? And well, the VA is the VA...better benefits. But if ICU/ED is where you want to end up then I say go with St. Mary's Med/Surg to get your foot in the door, then after 6month/1year apply to ED or after 2 years to ICU. St.Mary's and Good Sams are Tenet hospitals (not a great corporation). Good Luck in your job search and welcome to the area! Oh also, the ratio- on tele 6pts, med/surg 8, icu 2

Florida is full of profit hospitals. I know little about them. Could you please tell me more?

I hear that there is HCA and tenet

That is exactly why I would choose the VA or a non for profit hospital. The hospital I am at now is a Tenet facility and it is horrible to say the least. I am leaving to start school in January and will never work a for profit hospital again! HCA is not much different, but not as bad. Just google Tenet Healthcare and enjoy the readings. But like I said, St. Mary's is great for trauma if the ED & ICU is where you see yourself. They have a union so that helps a lil. Jupiter Medical Center is non for profit. I like them, and they have an ED. Is West Palm Beach definitely where you are moving to? If you move further south (or are willing to travel) you will find more non for profits in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area. Since you are not from this area just do your research. But you also don't want to be too picky, especially if this will be your first nursing job...you don't want to go too long without getting a job. And Spanish speaking is always a plus, especially in South Florida.

I'm currently at smmc and I love it. I work icu. If you are looking for variety it's the place to be. There is a critical care course you can take and transfer to icu or step down if that is your goal. My mom works for VA and lives the benefits so there are pluses to each spot. Just depends on your goals :-) congrats! If you have specific questions you can message me.
