Florida NCLEX & Misdemeanors

U.S.A. Florida

Published

hello all-

I am graduating in May and will hope to take the NCLEX and PASS!! My question is, 8 years ago I had adjudication of guilt withheld for a minor misdemeanor (shoplifting make up from Walmart)--DUMB!!! I was only 18 and was stupid. Does anyone know if I have to submit a letter or recommendation from the DON from my school? She is on another campus and I don't even know her. How can I ask her to write a letter? I have other letters of recommendation from employers and instructors. If anyone has any experience with this please let me know. Thanks so much. J.D

You need to submit a copy of the actual documents from the court, then depending on if the Board needs anything else, then they will let you know. Each case is on a case by case basis. Best thing is to talk to an attorney over this as we cannot give legal advice here.

Each state has their own specific set of rules, and what one state will permit, another one won't.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I have all the court documents ready to go....I am just getting conflicting stories from the BON regarding the letters of recommendation.

My advice is to err on the side of caution and get one. Sure enough, if you don't...they'll want one and that will hold you up from sitting for boards.

Thanks for your input. The problem is that I don't even know the DON because she is on another campus and has no interaction with my class. I feel uncomfortable asking her to write me a letter when she doesn't know me, does that make sense? I am so worried about not being able to take the boards because I have come so far. I would be so ashamed. Who would have thought stealing $10 worth of makeup as a teenager would haunt me for ever!! Thanks again...jd
