Florida Hospital College No Longer Offering AS Just BSN

U.S.A. Florida

I graduated a few years ago with my AS degree from Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences. I was very surprised to hear that starting this October they are no longer offering an associates degree program, just a BS degree. I've also heard that Florida Hospital has turned down students who graduated from their school with the associates degree saying at this time they are only hiring grads with Bs degrees. I don't know if this is because there is no longer a nursing shortage and the don't feel the need to get nurses out into the hospitals or what to think. Anyone have any thoughts?

There was another thread within the last week or so talking about how a college (in Philadelphia, I think) had announced it was suspending its ADN program (because hospitals in the area are only hiring BSNs). I think that's admirable of the schools, to stop taking students into a degree program with which they will have a hard time finding a job in the immediate area. Think about it, lots of schools would be happy to keep accepting students into a program and taking their money, and it's your tough luck if you can't get a job when you're finished -- not their problem!

These schools can always reopen the AS programs if/when employment conditions change in the future.
