hi florida nurses. i need some help! my boyfriend are i are moving to florida next march (we are from there originally) and are looking at the atlantic coast anywhere from jax to gainesville to lake worth.

i graduate as an LPN in october, and i am also a nationally registered EMT-P. i would like to bridge to RN as soon as possible. i have asked around at some community colleges, and some will only let you test out of fundamentals 1 and some will only allow you to bridge with 3 yrs experience as an LPN!

my question is does anyone have a RN bridge program they would recommend in florida?? either a paramedic-RN or LPN-RN.... the best one i have found so far is palm beach community college.... i have inquired at IRSC, PBCC, Brevard CC and Kaiser Univ......

as far as i know, FL has restrictions for Excelsior....

any advice would be appreciated!! please help!

Come to PBCC, I have some people that are in the transition program now.

Do you have all your prereqs? I'm starting 1st semester there in 4 weeks! If you test out of the 1st and 2nd semesters, you'll hit 3rd semester in Fall 2009 with my group!

A word of advice, if at all possible, go apply now and take the class NUR2000 online. It's the introduction to professional nursing, and it's required for transitioning students. It's all online and pretty basic, but it is required before starting. It's also a 1 hour class, so it's cheap.

The restrictions for Excelsior are only for students who do not have a LPN license but a license in some other field. So if you picked that route you shouldn't have any problems but I would call the BON for more information. I do know that the closest clinical site for Excelsior is in Atlanta.

I don't know about any schools on that coast.

Justin, i have all the pre-reqs from a AAS degree i got in 2003, and i am hoping that they dont expire! i did kinda poorly in chem and micro and wanted to retake those just to up my chances of getting accepted into the program.

the person i talked to at PBCC was awesome and very helpful and said i could take the NLN-1 and 2 placement tests to get rid of some of the nursing classes and also test of out some clinical skill sets.

i am still a FL resident, so i will try and get that NUR 2000 class done ASAP, but i wont have my LPN license until november.... i am a paramedic but i would like to do the LPN - RN option since LPNS are exempt from more of the core nursing courses.

thank you for your help! we need to keep in touch. good luck to you!!!!

Have you looked at FCCJ or UNF? Exactly where in florida would you like to be?
