Hi I am an FIU nursing major currently in my sophomore year. I m on track to apply for the FIU generic BSN nursing program by spring of 2014 however I was curious as to how the pre req credits transfer over when applying to other nursing schools such as (Barry, FAU, BC, Nova, Dade). Basically my question is, will my credits still transfer over to those schools or would I have to take extra classes to satisfy their requirement?

Specializes in ICU, step down, dialysis.

Moved to Florida State Nursing Programs for best response.

Your credits will transfer over from FIU just fine! Whats your GPA? Before you apply just make sure you full fill all the pre reqs and requirements for the program.

Right now my gpa is at a 3.43, I'm doing Air Force ROTC and I've got over 200 service hours as of now, hopefully have 300+ by spring term.

My recommendation would be to try 2 raise your gpa as much as possible especially science gpa. Fiu accepts students using a point system. They give extra points for military service and volunteering. I would aim for 400 volunteer hours. (You would get the most points) See if your ROTC experience counts for both areas. For FIU you also have to do a 2-3 min video essay and take the hesi and pass the reading and math portion with a 80%. The hesi is like $55. Fiu is very competitive a high gpa doent cut it. Some one with a gpa with around a 3.77 and some volunteering hours (around 150) didnt get accepted but someone with a 3.5 but has alot of volunteering and work experience did get accepted. So make sure you have a higher gpa and those numerous volunteer hours. Do you have any W? I hope not, someone who was an FIU student with a 3.9 didnt get into the program because of a W.

If you apply with time (for nova deadline for spring is October 1 but I would apply a month before that in the end of august or beginning of September to get an early interview .) If you pass the interview and you should get int the program without a problem. Novas application doesn't require an essay , teas or hesi score or letters of recommendation you do have to pay $50 dollars application fee.

All MDC (Dade )looks at is GPA and Teas score. You also need to take an Into to Health Class (3 credit class) before you apply to the program. I would try to raise your GPA as high as possible. The remaining classes you have to take you should try to pass them with all As. You need a score above 80% to get into the nursing program but only a 57% score to apply to to get into MDC. I would say an 87 is the lowest you should aim for. At dade there is alot of competition so a low TEAS and GPA doesn't give you a chance. You need around a 87 over points to get into the program the first round. Multiply your GPA times 10 that would give you 34.3 points. Lets say you got an 80 on the teas multiply that times .6 and that would give you 48 points. 48 +34 is 82 points. 82 is too low , need higher GPA and teas. You need to pay a $30 dollar application fee and around $50 for the Teas.

Barry is fairly simple to get in. I know some one with a 3.4 who got in. There is no application fee, no interview, no essay, no hesi or teas score. After you get accepted into the school you have to pay a deposit of $250 to reserve your spot and receive you acceptance into the nursing program. (You get accepted into Barry, need to pay deposit to later get accepted into actual nursing program. You do need to take a religion class (barry is catholic) one you get accepted . You can take that at FIU if you want.

BC is as competative as FIU and MDC. BC has slightly different requirements. You take the HESI and need to pass all sections with 80% except English which is 85%. You also need to take HCP 0001, Health Career Core no credit course, that last 75 hours. The application fee is $20.

FAU is one of the hardest programs to get into. Some one with a 3.85 sciences and a 99 TEAS Score did not get in. Their application also has alot of requirements. You need your Teas Score, essay, letters of recommendation and pass the interview portion. The application fee is $30 and the Teas is around $50.

Didyou submit your application? I received an email today about sending the link for the YouTube video
