Did any of the CNA's on Allnurses.com became employed prior to receiving their CNA certification? Which work setting do you think is better: a nursing home, home health, or a hospital?

Any recomendations to a good paying agency in the Tampa Bay Area?:monkeydance:

I was offered a job a week after I received my certification. To my knowledge, they could have hired me prior to my passing the test, but I just waited till I got my certification. I'm currently working in Pinellas County in a nursing home. From my experience, Pinellas County nursing homes pay almost $2.00/hr more than Hills County. Usually hospitals want at least a year experience working as a CNA before they will hire you. Hope this helps!

Does anyone know of where the best job opportunities are in the Tampa Bay/Clearwater area are?

I have past hospital experience and more recently homecare experience , have applied at hospitals relatively recently . Are they really popular with CNA job seekers?

Just kind of discouraged by the lack of response.

Any experiences/knowledge would be appreciated.

Our hospital is always hiring CNA's because they are always moving on to nursing. You have to be persistent. Some folks have told me that it takes a few weeks to get in to Morton Plant or Helen Ellis. One unit I worked on was crying for a secretary, and the entire hiring process took over 6 weeks. I don't know why it takes so long, because there's always a desperate need for good CNA's on every unit I've ever worked on.

It's vital to get your foot in the door. My advice: Apply for everything -- housekeeper, transporter, unit secretary, even food service worker. Don't worry, they'll train you. Plus, the hospitals love multitalented workers who can do more than one job. Another way to get your foot in the door is to become a volunteer for a few hours a month. It's much easier to work your way up from the inside, plus in some of these jobs you'll get the best idea of which unit is the nicest to work on. And don't forget to mention that you applied for a CNA job originally.

Apply online and also keep an eye on the Sunday paper because that's where the Open House hiring is advertised. Dress in your best and bring your resume, as I've heard of a few people who were hired on the spot.

Thanks for the information.

I have actually applied at the Morton Plant hospital about a week ago so I guess I have to keep my fingers crossed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

I too am very curious how often CNAs are hired in the Tampa area. I am about to go into a CNA course and now I'm worried about the lack of responses. Have you heard anything yet? Thanks!!

Hey Nanetpetatucci,

Just keep your options open, from the research I have done , homecare agencies are hiring, some require 6 months work exp. some not. Do footwork-actually go from nursing home to nursing home with your resume-see if they are hiring.

Hello everyone.. I am getting ready to take a CNA course as well.. does anybody know the starting pay for CNA's in hospitals..particulary ST.Joseph???..I think they hire you as a patient care tech..A girl in my class who actually works there told me they are always hiring..but it takes a while to get a call back:(

just moved to tampa and i have applied everywhere...nursing homes and hospitals...finally got a job!!!! yay!!! its funny because i didn't technically apply there, i just sent them my resume on jobing.com and got a call back within two weeks!!! my advice is to look everywhere!!! newspapers, monster, jobing, careerbuiler, hotjobs...etc!!! good luck!!! :D
