Best for-profit-schools in Tampa?

U.S.A. Florida

I live in Tampa and am interested in getting my RN degree. I am currently attending HCC to finish up my pre-reqs since I've hearing all the issues about receiving institutions and also since Its cheaper than going to a private school. I've visited Concorde and it seemed like a personable environment, however, I wasn't too happy when the admissions cousnelor couldn't tell me the exact cost per credit hour was. I will have all my pre-reqs completed by the time I enroll in another school so I want to know what I will be paying before hand. Since I wont be done with my pre-reqs from HCC until May 2011, I wont be able to start (assuming I get accepted) the nursing program until Jan 2012. If I were to attend a private school I would be graduating around Dec 2012. A whole year and a half earlier than HCC. Anyone have any info on Keiser, ITT-Tech, or another schools in the Tampa area for an ADN degree.

do you best to avoid for profit schools, they are subpar and real nursing schools wont ACCEPT your credits. you will pay 30-60 k for a RN degree and will have trouble finding a job.

yes they will take your credits. If you are a licensed through the state, the automatically give you credit. Everything major university will give at 60 credits towards your bacholar's degree if you are licensed.

if you are getting an AD in Nursing they might. I was referring to the schools such as Ultimate Medical Academy and other fly by night schools names changed joke schools. and the idea that you would like to get a Maters in Nursing as a ARNP or CRNa. your credits will not be credited. EVEN IF THE SCHOOL YOU ARE GOING TO PINKY PROMISES..(they lie)

you don't get credits by having your associate's degree, have to have your RN license and they will take that. As long as your license is in good standing, that's how it works in West Virginia and PA.

You are aware this a thread ABOUT TAMPA FLORIDA .A COMPL:smackingf:nuke:ETELY DIFFERENT STATE.

What about Ramussen College? They are in several states as well as Tampa, FL. What is the reputation among hospitals? Are the only RN's getting jobs graduates of USF in this area?

I am currently looking at all schools/ options for the RN program. I went to ITT TECH last night for an information sessions. The program there is 27 months, $497 per credit hour, you have to keep a 3.0 average, HESI A2 is the entry exam. Basically, the program is $54,000 for 27 months. They seemed really nice, but this price is very high to me. So, I am glad to hear that UMA is more reasonable. It's still a tough call with credits not transfering, costs, etc.. Anyone that has recently completed the RN program at ITT, UMA, or any other Tampa school have any feedback??? Its much appreciated.

Nurse Recruiters are aware that for profit schools have been popping up all over the region to allow students who can not get into USF or University of Tampa or U of florida for BSN, and to HCC or Pasco Community College. The GPA required to get into the program approaches 3.8 and above. so those whose GPA is 3.0 go to these other schools. with the GLUT of NEW GRADS and the influx of Moms having to work full time + cuz Dad is unemployed and over 60 yo not retiring ( I know an RN at a surgicenter who is 79 yo and works 3 days per week) Nurses Managers (usually BSN) if able to choose will side with Traditional 4 yr BSN grads. (nothing personal just business) SPENDING 50K at ITT for an associates Degree RN is ECONOMICALLT STUPID- that same degree at HCC is much less. REMEMBER just because a school is allowed to graduate RNs doesnt mean it is good and the Graduation rate and subsequent EXAM rate , says a lot.

I would really appreciate some HELP and any comments. I have to make a decision very soon, possibility this week to choose a For-Profit school in Tampa, FL. I have made 3 choices so far and I don’t know which one has a bad reputation and/or a good RN school. They are Keiser, , or Everest. I am aware for-profit is expensive but at my age unfortunately I cannot to waste time.

Keiser, first I read all good then bad. They have been NLNAC for a while to my understanding. The problem I have with Keiser is classes start this Sept 1st, 2013 (TEAS V). It’s already mid-July, and have only maybe, maybe have less than a month to study!! I have not been in school for quite some time and want to take AP1 & 11 over again. I really need to know in each category of TEAS V, what is the percentage of questions. Math – what kind? I had Everest tell me ratio, proportions, metrics, percentages – NOT from what I’ve read. Can someone please breakdown the math?

So I do not think that’s enough study time for the TEAS V and I only have one book with good reviews (ATI TEAS V). Are there any other books that would really help me if I were to crunch this before Sept. 1st??? Rasmussen, I really like it but they are a “candidate” for NLNAC. They told me it should be a few months and I would be grand-fathered in. Now their classes don’t start until Oct. 7th which would be better for TEAS V study. One of their other campuses is already NLNAC

Both Keiser and Rasmussen have always followed up with me. NOT Everest.

Everest: I had been speaking with the RN Admissions Rep. who was the best person to talk to they said. Short story – last week I called her every day for a week and she didn’t return my phone call until this past Monday. End of story. Everest is now NLNAC and their classes start Oct. 14th (great).

It’s a strange thing that Everest last Sept. 2012 (not NLNAC) I made an appointment with an admissions rep. to tell them I wanted to change my major to RN. Two rep’s did everything they could to change my mind. I asked why, they told me they don’t have enough teachers that are licensed.

PLEASE, has anyone been to any of these colleges? Which is the best, or the worst??? I have only one ATI book. Could anyone suggest any other books for the TEAS V??? I would sincerely appreciate any thing
