Accelerated Option: MDC Spring 2014 (Jan-Dec)

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hi Everyone! This discussion is for all those who were accepted and reserved a spot (Veterans are welcome to share advice, it's greatly appreciated ;) ) in MDC AO Nursing program starting in Jan. 2014. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! So stoked about embarking on this next step in our education! I look forward to hearing and meeting so many new faces. I don't know about you but the butterflies are settling in as we approach Orientation and the New Year. So, I figured, we can start breaking the ice informally here on this board and have a grand time at Orientation! Now, down to business :) - here, feel free to:

Introduce yourself! - Share anything you'd like. Why you're in and your future goals for Nursing. Study habits. General area in Miami you reside ( Just for study group purposes. Never know, hopefully you find someone that's not far away and can meet somewhere local to study. I know the campus might be a stretch for some of you.) Interesting fact irrelevant to school like fav. food/music/hobby. These are all suggestions, of course - feel free to share whatever you'd like.

Share Info About the Program - Anyone have a heads up on uniforms, books, supplies, etc? Got the skinny on clinical sites, financial aid, anything? Go ahead and jot it down here! The more info, the merrier. :)

I don't know how many people are in this class but I'm excited and wish the best to all of you. I'm hoping this will be useful as I'm sure you've heard or presumed by looking at the curriculum for the AO Option (21 CREDITS! for spring alone) - it's about to get real! Yikes! Iron sharpens iron my lovies, so let's do the best we can and rock out!

I'll start:

My name is Romi (Not my legal but this is fine.) Honestly, I applied to Nursing as one of a few options. Got in, hashed over and contemplated, and decided to go with this. My goal - for now, to finish this program, obtain my license and practice as calm and collected as possible. I'm 15 minutes North of the Medical Campus. I really like all types of food and can dig most types of music. I'm hyper and try to keep a positive attitude. Working out is my stress reliever. ;)

I recently completed my health work. I did the $225 all inclusive deal at the Rescue Clinic (995 NW 3rd Street). They're the only clinic open in the evening (2-10pm).

Heads up - Ask the assistant to make you a copy of everything including the drug test results and have them reseal it. If they decline, when you take it to nursing, they'll open it up and ask you to make a copy anyway, they'll keep the original. Just DON'T open the envelope yourself.

You will need two background checks, FDLE & DCF Letter. I'm only the 368734614th person to say this but it's okay because it's true. I did not pay attention, did the FDLE only and had a rude awakening when I thought I was turning in my docs. *RAIN on my parade! and we're not talkin' gumdrops ppl!* The FDLE is $58. The DCF is $40. Together they are $90. Save yourself 8 bucks and precious time and do them together.

I believe registration is open! Grab that curriculum and start signing up for classes. Once you're signed up, you can look into books and etc. I'm working on that now. If any questions or concerns, or you just want to know what I'm signed up for, feel free to contact me at [email protected] or on here! Good luck guys!

Hi, there! I'm Jessica and would love to respond at length to your post but I'm in a plain 'n simple panic right now! I called the nursing department weeks ago to ask about the background checks and was told that AO needed only to complete the check for which there was an actual link, not the a DCF one. But apparently not! Arghhhhh... I'm gonna call down there in the morning and find out what the heck I'm supposed to do now. Frustrating, to put it politely ;) Anyway, I'm also super excited to meet everyone in our cohort-- hope to see you soon!

Any advice for a new MDC nursing student.?
