6 months no hospital job. Feeling down.

U.S.A. Florida

Hello everyone I graduated December 2013 and passed the NCLEX February 2014 which now seems like the easiest part of the process and trust me nursing school was hard. I currently work in home health but really want that acute experience. I've been to job fairs, went in person, hundreds of online apps. 2 interviews one went well but I didn't get any offers. Where in Florida can I get a job? Even sub-acute facilities will be great. I have a ASN and I'm currently working on my BSN. I feel like giving up this job hunting all together it's emotionally draining.

HI there ,

I understand what you are going through a close family member of mine just passed her boards a month ago and she has yet to find a job. On the other hand my aunt has been an RN for over 20 years works in Miami Baptist hospital. She tells me how the nursing field is rapidly changing by 2016-17 all RN's will be required to hold at least a BSN. In addition many baby boomers will be retiring around that time and their will be an overwhelming need for nurses all over the country.

Keep your head up continue to work on your BSN, believe me it is crucial. Also have you ever considered volunteering? I know this may not be what you want to hear, but this is a sure way of finding employment at a hospital. Many soon to be nurses begin volunteering during nursing school so by the time they pass their boards they have 1 year of hospital experience. I have heard that many employers won't even look at your resume without the minimum required hospital work experience.

Good luck!

Thank you!! I am currently looking into volunteering at the Red Cross and a free clinic. I know things will turn around eventually just need to stay determined despite how hard it is. Yeah the best thing to do is to volunteer during school or work as a CNA to land the job after. I was focused on school only.
