? about going to Erwin with plan to go on to HCC

U.S.A. Florida

Hi all!

I have a quick question. Assuming I pass the needed tests to get into erwin...I am 40 and have been out of school a LONG time now so i will need to brush up on test taking. I am pretty sure I can pass the test to have a 12th grade level. What is the other exam and is there a book I can get to help with the test?

Second question, lets say I go to Erwin and want to continue on to my RN. Will HCC accept ALL my Erwin credits and if not, does anyone know how many they will take. I am just trying to figure out the advantage of going to Erwin route as opposed to HCC directly into the RN program...although i realize it is very competitive to get into.

Any advice or insight would be appreciated more than you know! Thanks in advance.

Hi. The other test you will have to take to get into Erwin is the TEAS. There is a study guide you can get from http://www.atitesting.com. It is Version V. You can also get it from Erwin's bookstore. It is about $45. I bought the book but really didn't use it and I just passed the TEAS last Saturday. I sold it on Ebay already.

As far as your question regarding HCC I don't know about that. I just know about the tests to get into ERWIN since I am doing that right now. My next step is to attend the info meeting. I do believe you still have pre-reqs you need to take to bridge to HCC and SPC. If I'm not mistaken. I think once you do those the actual bridge program is 3 semesters instead of 4. Good Luck! :nurse:

You really don't need to purchase a TEAS book to pass- You can purchase any nursing entrance school exam book or Kaplan etc to pass- just review math and english comprehension/reading.

I don't think that you can study for the science portion- either you know it or you don't. Most fail that part of it.

Math

Review metric systems and know how to convert from grams to kilogram and reverse

fractions

percentages

and know how to convert between the two eg. 3/4 is .75 and also 75%

decimals to fractions and the converse

geometry but mostly how to calculate perimeter/area

ratios

there is usally 3-4 algebra questions

definitely know how to convert farenheit to celsius and celsius to farenheight

basic word problems etc

Hillsborough Community College has a recipriciocity (sp?) with Erwin. They will give you credit for one semester so instead of taking 4 semesters for the traditional RN program you take 3. You can only start in the Summer.

Avantages

after finising LPN, you can work while you take your pre-reqs to apply to hcc's program- pre-reqs can take anywhere fom 1 year to 2 yeas to complete depending on how many you already have and where you score on the math cpt exam

Other way

to get into HCC's program, it's competitve and you have to already have the 21 credits pre-req and a gpa of around 3.3-3.4 to get in although in prior semesters i have seen 3.2 get in as alternates.

I am currenly in NP3

LPN starting pay

nursing home $19-20/hr

LPN hospital $15 but benefits and tuition reimbursement and ability to move on different floors and see more illnesses

RN

Starting pay $23 with $1.5 to $3 differential for evenings/weekend shift

The LPN affords you the opportunity at your age to continue to work and make a decent salary while working towards your pre requisites.

Have you done any of your pre reqs yet?
