Hello all. just reading different threads and wondering what does the starting salary look like for a grad nurse? i live the in Atlanta area so any ball park figure will do. thanks!
Answering your question I think it's true. I've heard of a nurse (bilingual that started after graduation making $25.00 an hour at the ER. I think that maybe salaries are different in every state because of living costs.
The $35.00/hr is starting pay in the San Francisco Bay area for regular RNs, not travellers. The cost of living is very high, so that's the reason for this higher starting salary. Travellers make even more. It's not uncommon to pay $1100 to $1500 for a 1 BR apt.

Hi Carrie...I'm just curious..I too live in Ohio...is the 26 and hour for an agency? I'm just curious because that is a really good starting rate...better than I have come accross. I may have to switch jobs!!
I agree!!!
Carrie, I'm curious too! Like I said in my post. I've been a nurse for over 6 years and am only making 21.74!!! Plus my $3.00 shift diff. for working 12-hour nights! (working in Ohio)
Of course I did forget to mention my $4,000 sign on bonus and my $12,000 bonus for a commitment to working 3rd shift for 2 years. But what stinks about the bonuses is they tax them to death. They even include them in our regular pay checks....the least they could do is cut us a seperate check....so unfortunately we don't bring home the full amount of the bonus.
Sorry....kind of started ranting....oops!! :)

Hey,I live in Ohio. I just started the interview process and so far I've been offered 22/hour plus benefits up to 26/hour plus benefits. I'm taking the latter one, plus they said they'd pay off my school loans!!
hope that helps
Carrie
Hi Carrie,
My daughter is graduating from nursing school tomorrow night. She has a lot of school loans. Do you mind if I ask what hospital you are working at. She lives in Lancaster, but is willing to move. Thanks for your info.

Hi all from Upstate NY. I guess the pay here is pretty crummy compared to some of you! I was hired at 20$ and a few cents an hour. When someone found out what I made, they pitched a fit to the DON and she cut my pay by 1.69 an hour. I only accepted it because I wanted the experience. But, I have friends here at Oswego Hospital that were hired at 16 something an hour. Bad pay for a really really hard job. As soon as we can, you know I will leave NY.
Those of you with salaries in the 16-20 per range, how is the cost of living in your area? What is the living wage? Your wages seem a bit low compared to other areas. From what I have heard, the starting salary in my area (Boston) is about $26.50 not including diffs. That may sound like a lot, but the cost of living in this area is astronomical (average monthly winter utility bill $375). I am wondering if it all averages out in the end. Low salary low cost of living, high salary high cost of living.
