Role transition from student to RN

Does anyone have any helpful tips on transitioning from a student to an RN? I know this can be challenging, especially if the only experience a person has had is during clinical rotations.

Thank you!!

Don't be afraid to ask questions and don't feel like you should know everything already. You will learn more on the job than you think.

I totally understand, I'm pretty nervous about that too. I think the first time is getting that license and just doing the best we can to learn. The one thing that makes me shudder is the thought of a bullying nurse on the floor I may end up on.

If you go looking for a bully, you'll find one. Whether or not there is actually a bully there.

I started to answer the question, and then realized after 1000 words or so that my response was too long for this thread, and was probably of interest to a lot of other people as well. So I started another thread. The link is below, and I hope it helps.

I would say to go in with the mentality that learning starts NOW. Be humble, research your questions whenever possible before you ask someone (and confirm your findings if needed), read policies and procedures in your downtime and off time, research, research, research, be helpful and friendly, and again, be open to learning.

Good luck!

Thank you all for your advice! It is nice to have such supportive words to go into the working world with! All of you are appreciated!
