PDA for meds

I am a nursing student and I am interested in buying a PDA specifically to use for meds ie Tungston palm pilot. Does anyone have one? Which one do you have (please be specific), what do you like/dislike about it, what software do you use with it, would you recommend buying one why/why not?

Any input would be greatly appreciated

Thanks Susan

How long do you get to download updates to the programs you order?

Also what kind of case do you use?

Any other software suggestions?

I'm awaiting the arrival of my PDA and am curious...

Anyone know about epocrates?(.com??)

SJ

the first drug program i downloaded was epocrates. the free part is a very basic drug book. when you first download it, they provide you with advanced features that will magically disappear in 30-60 days or so. then to get the extra features, you pay

as a nursing student, i found the pt teaching, nursing considerations, IV considerations, etc. very helpful in the NDH drug program. but, the hard copy drug book i am most likely to grab is the NDH too. being able to access by brand names and chemical names is quick!

I use Pepid RN and HIGHLY recommend it. It has EVERYTHING you could ever want, all in one neat package. Drugs, assessment, lab values, it even cross references up to 40 drugs at a time to check for potential interactions! It has calculators, info about diseases, jeez more stuff than you could ever possibly want just about. It rocks. The only drawback is that you have to pay for it, but it's SO WORTH IT. I've used it for almost 2 years now (in school, and now starting work) and love it to death.

I'm not gonna tell you which PDA I have because I am a total gizmophile and paid way too much money for it, and it's the latest greatest all-that, which is probably more than you want / need / can afford as a student. ;)

Weasel,

Did you order the subscription of Pepid. What is that anyway?

Now you know that this makes us all the more curious!!!:chuckle :chuckle :chuckle

I have the Treo650. Yes, I bought the subscription to Pepid... which is essentially buying the product with all it's updates and tech support. It works out to about $5 a month if you buy the 2 year plan, which I did. I know it seems expensive, but believe me... it's SO AWESOME. Puts epocrates and all the others to shame. I should get an endorsement credit from them or something, for all the positive press I give them... but I swear, I don't!

i have Epocrates right now, but i must say, i d/l'd the trial for Davis' Drug guide and hated it... the e-book format sucked and you have no idea what drugs are listed in the full product because they have a really small list included with the demo... and i refuse to buy a product without fully testing it out first... i want to know that i'm paying for something i really like and find user friendly...
