Need Help With Decision

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Well, I have so hard time to make decision , where to start.

I'm deciding between UCLA liver transplant unit and Good Sam L&D postpartum.

I like more L&D I know that but UCLA is the best teaching hospital. Only I don't get it they hired me to UCLA and I do not have bedside experience.

And UCLA doesn't give me residency only orientation for 6 weeks that it is, and I'm new nurse in US and out of school for 8 years. I don't feel ready for such a responsibility I think I need something slower space.

Good Sam is giving me training and residency for 6 months.

I don't know which to choose.

any suggestions?

Can't make the decision for you. Go with your gut instinct. But I honestly would not classify L&D as "slower paced".

Good luck.

Labor and Delivery can be extremely fast paced, and actually harder on your hip, if you are looking in those terms.

A six week orientation should be just fine on the transplant unit..........it is completely different than being in Labor and Delivery.

My choice for you would be UCLA. But you have to make the final decision.

A "residency" is usually a one year program.......or even two.

I mean the L&D training is going to be very long like 6 months but first I will start on postpartum for 6 months and in feb2006 I will move to L&D.

I want to go there tomorrow and observe and then decide.

Thanks for replay.

You are going to find L and D much harder on your hip.
