Nurses New Nurse

I graduated in May 2014 and start look for job since September. But I have not land a job at all. It's very difficult to get a job when I don't have experience as nurse or as any health care position. I have apply a lot places, hospitals, clinics, LTC but nothing. I just feel like I don't know how to look for anymore. Can someone give advices?

I'm not a nurse. But here's what I know.

To get a job in most of healthcare you pretty much have to know someone. So, volunteer. Nursing homes LOVE REGULAR volunteers. You will get noticed if you are attentive and consistent. Then watch for an opening and ask to apply.

You will also be able to put it on your resume. You might be able to get where you volunteer to give a good reference. But, at the very least you can add it. It show's you are not just sitting around.

Ask around at clinics if they are participating at health fairs and need any help. Tell them your situation. The worst they can say is 'no.'

Whatever you do, don't just sit behind your computer screen and feel sorry for yourself. It does you no good. It won't get you a job. You're gonna have to put yourself out there. You can do it!

Thank you for your advice. I start looking into volunteer as well while I am applying jobs.

Kolabee is very much correct. I'm a new grad (Dec 14) and I landed my job one week after NCLEX because I knew someone who put in a good word for me. I also received 2 others offers for different hospitals. You know how I got those offers? I met with the recruiters and unit managers. They need to see your face and hear your voice. Pound that pavement. Make follow up phone calls to ensure that they know who you are instead of just being the 1000th online applicant with your same experience and credentials. If you do get to meet with or speak with someone (recruiter/manager)ale sure you follow up with them with either a phone call, email or thank you card. The day after my interview with the unit that I was hired onto, I walked right into the managers office and thanked her for her time. She was very impressed. You have to stand out!
