How long is the wait after an interview?

I was called in for a general human resources interview nearly 3 weeks ago. While I was there the nurse recruiter seemed impressed with me, and called in the nurse manager of the NICU. (I did my internship in a NICU and I told her that was my dream job) She said there had just been an opening that hadn't been posted yet, and I could interview for it that day. So I was thrilled! I spoke with the NICU nurse manager, got a tour of the unit, and met with some other members of the team in labor and delivery and mother/baby unit. I felt it went pretty well. They told me since the posting was new it needed to be up at least one week before they could hire someone and they would call me then.

A week later the nurse recruiter called me back and told me the managers really liked me on that unit, but needed to have the job posted for another week. (I didn't quite remember why) She told me she would call a week later, but now it has been over a week and a half. I feel I'm being blown off! Is this a normal amount of time for this process?

*Additional note: I did call the hospital and try to speak to the nurse recruiter who interviewed me. I was told they couldn't even transfer my call there, and it's their policy that no one can call in to that office because they are "so busy interviewing people all the time." I was just told to keep checking my email.

*Additional note of confusion: The job is not even posted on the web site along with other positions, so I am super confused just who they're waiting on.

Thoughts? Advice? Thanks!

I am in the same situation. It has been 2 weeks as of tomorrow. She said it could take 3 weeks but I just feel let down. I guess I gotta go back to looking for jobs at nursing homes :( The last one was terrible! I love working with the elderly but they were treated horribly. I couldn't stay there.

The interview process can take excruciatingly long, :grn: I know from experience. After my interview it took a month before I knew if I got the job or not. Luckily I did! ;) I called the nurse recruiter a couple times to ask if there was any information yet and to show them how interested I was in the job. Good luck!!

how did they finally offer you the job? What did the NR say when you kept asking her about your application? I feel like I bombed the H R interview but the nurses on the floor liked me a lot. Will they TELL us if they went with someone else??????

When I called the NR she was very sweet. She told me "I'm sorry I have no new information for you, they are still conducting interviews and you should hear by x date. I will call you when I have any information regarding the position." Then last week she called me and gave me an official job offer over the phone. She also thanked me for being so patient. I believe I had to wait so long because there were a number of NICU positions they were looking to fill so they could have a full class for orientation.

They may also be waiting to see if another more experienced candidate could fill the position.

I wouldn't freak out too much as these things often take time. After I interviewed I went over every answer I gave in my head and thought maybe I didn't do so well. I hope you get the job!!!

Dont they have to advertise all openings to internal candidates for at least 2 weeks and then to the public for a certain amount of time to meet EEOC requirements or something?

The only reason I got the interview for the job was because someone with MAJOR pull at the hospital put in my resume. It was purely due to someone I knew. I think she might have seen the listing internally but it was never listed on their website. It been almost a year since I graduated. It's hard to accept that I may have completely bombed the interview but am TRYING to stay positive. :uhoh3::lol2: What would I do without this website haha! It has truly gotten me through this horrible year! Next week (week 3) I will call nervously and see if the job is filled.

new2nicuRN since you have the job do you mind telling us what hospital you got hired at? I would love a job in the NICU more than anything and its always good to know who is actively hiring and is willing to hire new grads into the NICU...If not I understand. I just thought I would ask.

Okay so I called HR yesterday to "follow up" Then the floor manager called me back to offer me the position. She said HR should be calling me very soon because classes start in 2 weeks. 24 hours later NOTHING from HR. I mean whats going on ? HAHA I am so scared!

Update: I got a job! 1 month and 3 days after the interview...finally! Now I get to wait another month and a half to start. :-P

Congrats! :nurse:... I am STILL waiting to hear from HR! The floor manager said i was 100% hired! I dont get what HR is doing !! It's killin me!!

Update: I got the job. I found out officially 1 month after first interview. I start NEXT MONTH. That is a total of 2 MONTHS after my first interview! I graduated in December 2009! ONE YEAR LATER I GOT A JOB
