desperate to find work now!!

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hello all,

I graduated from nursing school with a BSN in may '09, it is now almost 2011 and I have been unable to get a job. I have tried nursing homes, hospitals, agencies basically anything I can apply to and everyone wants at least 1 year experience. I have family in NY and have been trying NY as well and it is even worse than philly. Does anyone know if there is anywhere in the philly area that will hire new grads? particularly nursing homes, I've tried all the hospitals in and around philly and nothing. If someone has a hook-up at a nursing home/hospital, I'm even willing to pay to put in a good word for me, that is how incredibly desperate I am now. Its is going on 2 yrs since I've graduated and I know that looks really bad, I'm afraid no where will want to hire me. I will only give this a little while longer but sometime after the new year I think I will seriously consider looking into aother field for work. Can anyone help before I make a career change?

I know some will say relocate but that will take me a while to do because I do not have much $ at the moment since I am not working.

I'm not familiar with the PA area, but after reading your post I tried to conduct a quick search. I understand you said you checked out every hospital/nursing home in the Philly area, but what about the rest of PA? I found a website listing "all" the hospitals in PA with their websites, so if you haven't already tried these then maybe it's something to look into.

I randomly clicked one, and found out that Penn Medicine has a new grad residency program, but I think it requires you to have completed your BSN within the past 6 months. [ Nursing Residency Program | Nursing Opportunities | Careers | Penn Medicine ]

Have you tried any/all those places on that list?

check into fair acres nursing home, check into mcgee rehab, check into little flower manor, apply to penn anywhere that says clinical nurse 1. chekc out bryn mawr rehab,

@VanessaRN-thanks for that website I'm about to check it out, I've been out of school too long for the Penn residency program as well as the residency programs for many other hospitals but I'm going to go through that whole list of hospitals, thanks again!

@careVUN, I applied to fair acres a few weeks ago and haven't heard anything, they only say if something comes up they will give me a call, l actually never heard of little flower manor so I'm definitely checking that out, thank you!
