What's the deal with this Information Literacy course?

Nursing Students Excelsior

Information Literacy...

So the nursing advisor is telling me that everyone has to take this class because, most likely, most college courses do not cover the material in this information literacy course.

I'm a little disappointed because out of my MANY college credits (taken previously for a BSN that I was pursuing) I was thinking that all I'd have to complete were the nursing theory exams (done with them) FCCA (currently taking) and CPNE (soon to take).

I was not, I repeat NOT looking forward to paying another 400 bucks to any other extra course which is 8 weeks long, mind you.

So my point, has anyone had transfer credits from a previous college course applied to this Information Literacy course?

If so, you mind just sharing the course title that was transferred?

Thanks

Glad I googled the the information prior to paying for it. I can confirm that Excelsior does indeed honor Penn Fosters Information Literacy course! After reviewing some of the material (study unit) I finished both exams, (entire course) with an A. I don't know about ya'll, but saving money is always cool with me!

Me too! Very reasonable...

It's not that bad if you are already computer literate. It's actually a breeze if you ask me.. I finished Information Literacy in one day! So you don't necessarily have to go by the 8 weeks it says there.. :sneaky: I wish I would've known about Penn Foster though, could've saved me some moolah!! :bluecry1:

I took Penn foster Info lit - spent 1 hour reviewing and took the 2 tests. Passed it with a high B three hours from paying for it. Super easy but I knew I flew through it bc I took a class just like it in 2010 that wouldnt transfer. I highly recommend it plus the study material is very indepth online.

I am in the same situation as you. I am currently taking the FCCA, and just happened to ask about the Information Literacy yesterday. I was disappointed when I found out a.) how much it was and b.) that it was ANOTHER 8 week course. I will definately look into Penn Foster, and am glad you posted the question.

I am nervous about the final FCCA tests. I did OK on the first three from each section, but also had not read any of the material. I am now reading all of the sections in the outline.

Thanks again!

Good luck with FCCA/CPNE

I talked with an advisor from penn foster Friday and they said excelsior college no longer excepts info literacy from penn foster. Any other suggestions

They haven't accepted the penn Foster class since about Nov 2012. Supposedly there is another class for around $200. There is another option but it is much heavier workload and requires documented time with that school's library.

Here it is:

It's at ISU but the exam must be done with a proctor and there are required library visits. It was approved as of Aug. 2013 but you must get approval from academic advising prior to taking the class to ensure the credit will be accepted
