Transfer questions regarding EC.

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

Hello and Thank you to those who has taken the time,

I am a non-traditional student who have attended a few schools in the past, but never obtained a degree with the many credits that I have obtained. As I reflect back on it, it shows that I was unstable which is kind of true. I'm a single mother and a homemaker who is trying to get herself back on track; and by doing so I have enrolled at a local community college taking Nutrition and Anatomy and Physiology 1. Next semester I plan to retake some classes that I didn't do well in at the pervious schools I have attended, such as Speech, because I was also looking into applying to the other traditional ADN programs which requires an excessive amount of requirements which would take me another 1.5 years plus their waiting list policy. Also, I used to live in NY for, 9 years, and just relocated to FL and have been here for the past 7 months - I would like to go back to NY in the future once my 'things' are situated; and the prices and the crap in some of the NY nursing schools are just over-the-top so, I felt that FL may be more feasible for me.

I have been reading treads on Excelsior College for almost two years, but never made the effort to make that call or ask that question because I just wasn't sure about the school itself and if it would be recognizable when I plan to further my education in the future (employment and institutions). What is the requirement for a Transfer student who has completed most but not all of the pre-nursing courses such as Micro, A&P2, Stats, College Algebra and etc.? If I complete all of the pre-nursing course(s) (that I mentioned) will it be an issue to enroll at EC? If there are current students, EC grads or who are in the process of beginning EC please assist me with any clarity/comments and/or word of advise.

Thanks you once again.

Excelsior is not a prelicensure program. You must be an LPN, paramedic, RT, or other healthcare provider to enroll. You can read the admissions requirements here: http://www.excelsior.edu/special-requirements-associate-degree

I just read it...I might as well work on my LPN in between the time that I have while I'm in school. But is the transfer of courses an issue? I just want to know for the future.

Thank you so much.

Excelsior is fairly liberal in accepting transfer credits, but it will ultimately be up to them at the time they evaluate your transcripts. Good luck!
