Studying for exams

What do you find to be the most useful way to study for your exams? Do you study the material that is sent to you or do you buy the recommended books and study by the content guides?

SG101's for nursing specific topics, and Cliff Notes Reviews for gen ed requirements.

Really if you care about having a grasp of the topics and understanding the logic you have to have the books. Especially in this program where you don't have a teacher. At least the authors of the books are experts and draw on other sources of info. I could not imagine not having the books, like cheating yourself, even if you do pass.

And a nCLEX prep book and CD (Saunders yellow book). Content guides are #1.

Do you find using the books and following the content guide with the study guide 101 enough to prepare for the exam ?

The best way to prepare is to study the practice exams in and out. It's everything you need to know...I never bought ALL the recommended books, too much $$$.

To meet the requirements of the program, you have to be 'in the field'. So you will be surprised by how much you have already picked up in working with good people and conversing. As a paramedic, I treat cardiac, respiratory, hepatic, peds, septic, etc... pt's (often by myself), and find myself chatting with docs about disease process and treatments, and with nurses about pt care and comfort. So the SG101's focus the knowledge base and upgrade to an RN student's requirement. So it works for me, and many others(from what I read here).

You don't need the books, however they are useful. Although study guide 101 is cumbersome, for the price, it's a great value compared to the books.......make sure you purchase the practice exams.....
