Has anyone gone to Excelsior College?

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

Hello fellow nurses,

I was wondering if anyone has gone & successfully graduated from Excelsior online college? I'm in the process of applying there but I'm a little nervous because it's an online school. I would have much rather gone to a physical nursing school, but everything where I live would have required me quitting my job to go to school full time. That wasn't an option for me because I have 3 kids to support. I know a lot of people have their opinions about online schools, but I would really like to hear from someone who has experience doing their nursing course online. Thank you :-)

To the poster EverstCalvin - Please...run from the publishing houses (The College Network aka TCN, Rue, Chancellors)! They are NOT affiliated with Excelsior. All they do is provide you with overpriced study guides and leave you with a bill for tens of thousands of dollars.

I just started with Excelsior on May 21st. I never heard of them until a co-worker mentioned it one day. I am taking my first test on June 10th, Transitions. I have a 4.0 GPA and applied at several colleges here in the Dallas area and the waiting list is crazy. I have a disadvantage because all of my classes were taken at U of A. I was told that they give preference to students that take their courses with them. I have all of my general education classes finished, now I have to take Texas History and Government. I was not going to wait another semester. Plus, I truly disliked being in a classroom, when I was in LPN school, all day with a bunch of students, who interrupted the instructors because their mama's cousins brothers first wife had such and such disease. I can read from a book at my house. That is why I am excited about the Excelsior Program. Good luck!

LOL Exactly - weren't those people annoying? Or the ones who constantly chatted during lecture and then complained when they didn't do well on an exam...duh!!

I took the Excelsior RN route back in 2006. I studied the recommended text and passed my exams. The material was challenging, but with dedication to putting in the time I was successful. I took my CPNE in Plano, Texas. Strong recommendation is to basically memorize the CPNE binder. I went on to pass my NCLEX first time go and then went on for a BSN through a traditional "brick and mortar" school. I am now in school for my Master's (FNP). My hubby is an LPN and has just started the Excelsior route this month. I have found the education that I received from Excelsior was great and prepared me well to work as a critical care nurse. I would highly recommend them for anyone who is self driven and motivated.
