Can you take general ed courses & nursing courses when taking courses not credit by exam or do you have to take all general eds before applying to nursing? If so how does yhe financial aid work with this?

In 2009, I sat in a classroom doing the general eds as I was taking the credit by exam courses with EC. The financial aid covered the classroom but not EC's credit by exam portion. I used the refund from the aid to pay for my EC program. Things have changed with EC now, in that your sciences have to be completed before you can take the nursing portion. If you have your sciences and they are not more than 5 years old, then it is possible that you can do what I did. Your best bet is to talk with an advisor to see if financial aid with cover the ASN courses.i don't have a clue about that because they didn't offer ASN nursing courses when I was there. Good luck!

Just read your other post and came back to say disregard this post as I see you're not interested in exams. Short answer, as long as your A&P and micro is current, you can do the nursing parts along with the other general education requirements except when it comes to the FCCA and the CPNE. You must be within completing all but 10 credits of general eds for these final two requirements.

Thanks Lyndaa I spoke with someone at excelsior today and you can now take the courses for ask and receive financial aid! I just have to start with the general Ed courses I need first like A&P & micro. Did you completed program & how was it?

Yes I completed their program in 2010 and I loved every minute of it! The key is to set your goals and stick to them no matter what! Also, very important that you get on the discussion boards and 'meet' people who are going through the same things as you are with the program. Everyone there has something to contribute to another's success. They provide each other with helpful study tips and resources that you would not otherwise discover until it's too late or you find yourself backed into a corner. I met some people during my college experience with EC that have remained a part of my life today, even though we have never physically met. Now, I'm a part of the BSN experience with EC. I think you will love the program if you take full advantage of what it has to offer, meaning, don't do it alone. But mind you, they are not giving away degrees. By the time you're done, you will know that THAT degree belongs to you.

Thanks, I'm dedicated & excited to conquer this course I've read negative & positive comments especially about cpne but I know you have to give it your all and put in that study time each week.

For me, the CPNE was nothing compared to the exams! When that time comes, you will be ready for it because you choose the date for when you KNOW you're ready. During my time in the program, there was a woman who graduated with me but did not take the CPNE for an entire year! Hey, to each his/her own, right? Once you complete the nursing components, you will be determined to pass the CPNE because that will be the only thing standing between you and the NCLEX. You will be fine! Post lots of questions for things you don't understand and make suggestions for things that you do....just in case someone else needs to know.

I meant she completed her last exam around the same time that I did. I went on to take the CPNE but she waited a year because she just didn't feel ready. So, her graduation was not until she passed her CPNE, which was a year later. Sorry for the mix-up. My thoughts run faster than my fingers do.
