Can anyone tell me which ALEKS courses will suffice for Excelsior's 2 credit hour requirement?

Thanks in advance!

Dave

Hi Dave, are you referring to the 2 hour Math requirement? If you are, yes they will accept ALEKS. I just finished it last week. The course that they accept is Intermediate Algebra. I got an official approval from my advisor just to be sure.

Thanks AggieMom! I truly appreciate it!

Are you in Texas by chance?

Dave

Yes I am. I'm from Austin. Have you taken an ALEKS course before?

No, I haven't taken an ALEKS course before. Do you recommend them? I've taken some with Straighterline, CLEP and Penn Foster.

That was the only course that I've taken through them, but it was great. Once you pass with a 70% you have to have the course transferred to ACE who will then send a transcript to Excelsior. Make sure you choose the hard copy option, because they don't accept transcripts by email. This information is all on the ALEKS website and you can call them too if you have any questions, but it was a little confusing at first.

Thanks for sharing this information...can you provide an address link to the site

Sure! Here's the ALEK link: ACE | Home

Here's an explanation from the ALEK website:

College Credit for ACE Credit-Recommended Courses

Students can receive college credit for American Council on Education (ACE) credit-recommended ALEKS courses. To receive credit, a student must assess at 70% or greater on the course material for an ACE credit-recommended ALEKS course and be registered with the ACE Credit Online Transcript System. Once ALEKS and ACE have confirmed the student's completed work in ALEKS, an ACE transcript is provided.

The ACE transcript can then be used to request up to three semester hours of college credit per course at educational institutions that grant credit for ACE credit-recommended courses.

Visit the ACE College Credit Recommendation Service for more information.

ACE Credit-Recommended ALEKS Courses:

  • Beginning Algebra
  • Intermediate Algebra
  • College Algebra
  • Trigonometry
  • College Algebra with Trigonometry
  • PreCalculus
  • Introduction to Statistics
  • Business Statistics
  • Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences

Instructions to Receive ACE Credit for an ACE Credit-Recommended ALEKS Course:

  1. Register in an ALEKS ACE credit-recommended course and assess at 70% or greater on the course material.
  2. Register with the ACE Credit Online Transcript System and submit a transcript request.
  3. ALEKS Corporation will receive the transcript request and verify if you have assessed at 70% or greater on the course material. This usually takes ALEKS Corporation approximately three business days.
    • If you have assessed at 70% or greater, you will receive an email from ACE when processing is complete. This usually takes approximately 1-3 business days for ACE to complete.
    • If your request is denied, you can continue to work in your ALEKS Pie until you have assessed at 70% or greater on the course material, and then resubmit a transcript request following the steps above.

[*]The ACE transcript can be used to request college credit at educational institutions that grant credit for ACE credit-recommended courses.

So will any of the listed courses (Math) suffice for Excelsior's math portion?

Dave

They will not accept Beginning Algebra, but gladly accepted Intermediate Algebra. Sorry, I don't know about the others.

Do you have to be enrolled in EC before taking a class at Aleks or straighterline to have the credit sent to them? Thanks for any input!

I don't think you have to be enrolled in Excelsior to take an Aleks course. Once you apply you would just have the transcript sent, like you would from other colleges you've attended or your nursing school transcript. It's a little more complicated, but once you finish just go to the ACE website and it tells you in detail what to do. I had to call the Aleks help number because their website was a little hard to navigate, but they were very helpful!
