CLEP Analyzing & Intrepreting Literature exam; study materials

For those of you that have taken the Analyzing and Intrepreting CLEP exam, what study materials did you use? How long did you prepare before taking the exam?

Thank you

I actually just took that exam today. There really is nothing to study or any way to prepare for it. If you buy any books or anything else to prepare you are wasting your money. I registered for it a couple of days ago and took it today and I have absolutely zero background in American or British literature. You just read the literature presented to you and interpret it. It really is an easy test, so much so, I can't believe they award 6 credits for it. The one thing I would keep in mind while taking the test is the time limit. There is a lot of reading with each question and it will quickly eat into your time. I finished with only about4 or 5 minutes to spare. Luckily you do not have to read an entirely different passage of literature for every single question. You will read a poem, for example, and then maybe the next 5 questions are about the same poem, then you will read a different poem or passage and the next 5 or so questions will be on that one and so and so on. This is a pass or fail test, not a letter grade. I highly recommend it. Good luck!

Medic2514,

Thank you for the great info. I am a little worried about the time factor. I like to reread things a couple of times. Are you able to go back and review the passage once you start answering questions? Also is it true that there are 140 questions?

I took the test in late fall of 2012. What I did was read the question first, identified the passage in reference (they are numbered), read that passage only, then selected my answer from the multiple choice options. I did the entire exam that way, without reading the entire poems. That left me with plenty of time to review. I passed with a score of 62 (50 is considered passing). I literally heard about the exam one day, registered for it the next, and then took it on the third day. As medic2514 said, there is no way to prepare for it....very simple exam for it to carry so much weight credit-wise.

Thank you so much for the helpful information. I will be taking this exam soon. I want to finish my BSN as fast as I can.

Yes you can. The screen is a split screen with the passage on the left and the question and multiple choice answers on the right. This applies to every single question. I think there was only 78 questions on my test. You'll do fine. I seriously recommend this test for super easy credits. I didn't even need all 6 credits, I actually only needed 3. But, after reading about this test on this site, I decided to just take. SO EASY and SO GLAD I did!
