Affordable Pre Req's Online for Excelsior College?

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

Hi, i've been an LPN for alittle over a year and now I'm really considering starting Excelsior college for my RN. I've never been to college, Only have high school diploma and LPN license. Odd work hours makes it hard for me to schedule school..

Now the question is, where can i find the most affordable Pre Reqs online that can be accepted towards EC Nursing?. I have to take ALL of the Pre-Reqs as an LPN:

My Admission states i need these:

Written English

Information Literacy

Humanities

Humanities Core

Life Span Developmental Psychology Core

Sociology Core

Additional Social Sciences

Human Anatomy and Physiology - Microbiology

College-level Math (additional natural science/math)

Arts and Science Electives

i've heard of StraighterLine, Penn Foster, Clep, ALEKS, can anyone pinpoint which pre-reqs can be taken where, which then i would transfer to EC for nursing?

Hi,

There are many options out there to get college credits, even with working odd hours. Me too....

You can look into CLEP for Humanities, Psychology, Sociology, LifeSpan (they call it Human Growth and Development...I did that one and prepared for about 2 weeks and took the test). You could do as many of these as will apply, since there is no limit to CLEP like there is to ACE credits.

Straighterline is good for English 101.... It took me almost 2 months, there was a lot of paper writing, but I do know of someone that did it in a week or two. I have heard that UExcel is good for English 101, and it is through Excelsior.

Straighterline is also good for A & P I and II, so I have heard.

Keep in mind, though, that Straighterline, or any other course you plan to add to an ACE transcript, can only be used for 7 credits toward the ADN for Excelsior, so choose your courses based on that restriction.

ALEKS was great for College Level Beginning Algebra. That one took one week of about 30 hours to complete.

Penn Foster was great for Information Literacy... just a few hours.

Microbiology can be taken through Excelsior, Credit by Exam. That is what I am doing.. just paid for it last night. And the Practice Exam, too, which everyone says are worth every penny.

GOOD LUCk to you!!

tokmom do we work together? because my DNS is an excelsior grad and 2 other RN's i work with.

We either work at the same facility or Excelsior is pretty common! :)
