    Dear Phoenix,

Yes, there is plenty of help out there for small business development, and a KEY is that u have a PASSION for what u r doing to carry u thru the bumps. Part-time is good, unless u have someone to support u while u start-up.

In addition, professionalism will be important to build your credibility. People r particular about their kids' health. Design a top-knotch program to present; get assistance w/ editting/graphics, etc. if needed. May want to market 1/2 day or full day programs. Spend much thought on your MARKETING stragegy - break into the systems supporting your audiences for leads. Brainstorming can provide many avenues to pursue, but u must be certain about what PRODUCTS u r offering and specifically TO WHOM. Then, design it around their needs.

    And, I imagine u r a gifted speaker / teacher - enthrall your audience!

Your idea does not sound too costly to begin, so start small, then branch out as u achieve. Could be marketable to adult community colleges as a class, to current providers of CPR training for instance - as a contractor.....

Well, have you ever heard of the small business development center (SBDC)? It is a federally funded program located in every county in every state. It is usually affiliated with a community college or university. This program was developed by the government to promote the growth and also to help existing small businesses be successful. Reason for this?? Small businesses are a tremendous asset to the economy and create thousands of jobs thus economy. You do not need an MBA to start your own business or any business knowledge for that matter. These counselors will guide you the entire step of the way, from creating a business plan to marketing. From start to finish! I know this because I am currently working with a business counselor from the SBDC to launch my own business in the Phoenix, AZ area. I do not have any prior business experience. This program is entirely free!! Business counselors hold business degrees and own or have previously owned a successful business. Depending on the type of business you would like to launch, they will match you with a counselor who has experience in that particular field. Again, there is no cost to you...this is a free service available to the public. Look up the Small business development Center or SBDC on the web and you will see what an amazing program it is. Good Luck!!! Hope this helps
    Hi there NipTuckNurse

I am learning about allnurses and came across your message about the SBDC. I used them as well when I started my business 7 years ago.
I am looking for some advise as my business is selling bras online and I just started carrying surgical bras. I'm finding patients you have had lung surgery, shoulder surgery or cosmetic surgery are really valuing knowing about these bras. So, I'm looking to reach nurses in these areas of expertise. Do you think advertising on allnurses is the ticket?
