NCLEX Classes: Teaching? - page 2

I realized that most of the students in my nursing program (where I teach) are not taking nclex prep courses. They have heard bad things about Kaplan (mostly that it's not so much teaching, but just... Read More

Hi there, I am a nursing professor of all level programs, currently the ADN. I have also taught Kaplan and highly respect their system, integrity and instructor training. While it is true that Kaplan NCLEX review does not "teach" this is based upon the student having just completed nursing school where they were taught the basics and fundamentals and hopefully applied them in their clinical rotation. What Kaplan teaches, that seems to be misunderstood by the first author on this page, is technique. Technique on HOW to answer the questions. It is based upon the nursing process and is very logical and methodical and it works. I now have a private practice to consult and tutor nursing students who are in school and graduates prepping for NCLEX in addition to those who are trying to get accepted to nursing school. I find those who often come to me are the ones who have failed the NCLEX once or twice.

    Hi There!

I really enjoy your posts. Not sure if you are still online. Currently I live in Dubai, and will offer NCLEX prep for the nursing population here who want to go to the USA to practice. I will put together a program and want to ask your advice on the what are the three top tools that I should offer and the time schedule need ( total hours). I plan to do group teaching. Price point is something that I am interested in as well.
    Thank you in advanced.

I think they is a big market for this kind of teaching but first and foremost, you have to make a very good product. If i were you, i would start with the local test prep because you can get immediate feed back from the students on what helped them, what did not and what they wished was in the course. Also, you could do a survey with recent nclex takers on what was the most helpful thing that helped them pass the course. After you have a good product, now go online. Pay someone who understands SEO- ie search engine optimization so that they can make your site appear on google page one when potential test takers search terms related to nclex test prep. Keep in mind that its all about marketing....you have to understand that and find ways to make your course unique otherwise you cannot survive. Amazon books/ebooks are another source of traffic that you can use. I know a guy making 22k monthly making simple guides for nursing students. Here's is his amazon page- Amazon.com: Jon Haws: Books, Biography, Blog, Audiobooks, Kindle You can search niche pursuits podcast and search his name and listen to him revealing how he makes 22k monthly selling nursing guides. Good luck

So it looks like all these guides have been released recently within the last year. He looks like he's been busy writing all these guides and published them all around the same time. What a great concept. I wonder how long it took him to put all this together.

I just got done listening to his podcast. I am truly impressed. Do you know if he launched the software he mentioned on one of his podcasts?
