Hi Everyone.

I'm looking for any ideas I can my hands on to eventually get away from the bedside. I have been a nurse for 10 years with the majority in Emergency Nursing. What kind of ideas are out there for people starting their own businesses? I'm not looking to start a home care business or LNC business, but I am interested in any other ideas my own mind isn't leading me to. Thanks for the help you can give me. :idea:

Well here is one that might work with your cath lab background.

Offering a mobile nurse seadation service, contract with various providers to go to there office and provide moderate sedation including recovery for procedures. If you offer monitors, crash cart, and supplies as an independant contractor they woudl not need to purchase the items. In addition if you are not an employee they woudl not need to pay workers comp, or taxes on your hours. It could be a significant savings for them.

Issues to look into are what is the reinbursement for sedation that the provider can bill for, and how muich should you charge to do the service. Since I am a NP it woudl be easy to order the medications but an RN might have to jump through more hoops,such as having a scheduale ahead of time with set orders for a pharmacy to fill, or the provider may need to order the medications.

Again this will also depend on state laws on who can do sedation in california the dental board has strict rules for in office sedation. But possible practices include dental, podiatry, even promary care if a doc wants to do a endoscopy and does not have a nurse on staff only a medical assistant.....
