Hey guys, frightful situation. OKAY, obese person having an MI, i can only get one lousy IV, what can i run at the same time (ie heparin, ms, integrelin, nitro ect?

I think nitro, heparin and ms are compatible, but I'd have to look it up to be sure. We have a chart hanging on the wall of the med room and it's a big help. I say tell the doc to get a central line, or call anesthesia to get another IV ASAP.

canoehead u said exactly what i was thinking.... ntg and heparin are definitely compatible so id go with them first.... but if the pt is that hard of a stick and clearly having an ischemic event based on their ekg's....id just tell the docs, they are gonna have to put a central in .... if it is that emergent i am sure they will get right to it.

Thanks guys, the one problem is we don't offer angioplasty at our facility, and by the time cardiology is seeing the ischemic patient, ems is ready for transfer and the cardiologist waits for nothing so we had better have our patient ready for shipping. Central lines as you all know aren't the quickest things to put in when your at a small rural hospital. I did find that you can use heparin, nitro, and integrelin in the same carrier, but ms was unknown. thanks for the input.

I see your point. I am at large medical/teaching facility. Can get a TLC at the wink of an eye... just different settings.

Good luck...

You can run NTG and Integrelin together. Integrelin has 9 incompatable drugs (Valium and Compazine are two of them) You can run Heparin and NTG together. When I'm in doubt, I call the pharmacy. Last week we had and emergency cath where we were running Heparin, NTG, and integrelin together, I wasn't really comfortable with it, but our pharmacy said it was OK.
