How to Succeed as an ER NURSE

Hi everyone. I just moved to the US and completed my RN-BSN program.

My first, employment is a PRN job (because they didnt have any open position for part time or even full time). I took it because I just want to get my feet at the door of the hospital and pray a better position opens up.

My background is mainly long term care . Slow paced. I have been out of job for about 2 years and here I am taking a job in the ED. I am just feeling like I am rusty already. Orientation starts next month and I NEED ALL the advice and support I can get. I am a fast learner. And I have started re-studying my nursing skills texts and medsurg and all.. just to remind myself as much as I can.

So, does anyone know textbooks or any advice that can help me succeed??

Hopefully you have a good orientation.

My advice: be curious. If you don't know something, look it up. Don't expect the hospital to spoon feed you everything. On your own time, read up.

And- most important: Once working, be safe. Don't worry about being judged for not knowing something. You will be judged much more harshly for endangering pt safety.

And- if you aren't busy, ask around and see how you can help.
