Specialties Emergency

I never post anything on here but here ya go.

After a week of classroom orientation, I will be starting tomorrow in the ER. I'm kinda terrified. So if anyone wants to be a well-wisher, please tell a new grad good luck!

If you're completely green to the ER, hopefully your orientation will be at least 3 months. Just try to keep your eyes open, mouth mostly closed, and absorb all that you can. Look around you, make mental notes, and be flexible. Listen and try to adapt. That is the most sound advice I can give you. There will be judgements made, but you have to let everything go and not let opinions affect you. Try to read up on things that you learn, medications that are new to you and disease processes that are challenging for you. I still do that and I've been in the ER going on 11 years. Good luck, it's an experience for sure.

Hi dream! Welcome to AllNurses!

It sounds like you are excited about your interview. I hate the waiting too. I don't have any real answers but they can call any time during regular office hours. My hospital was so frustrating. When I first started nursing, I didn't hear for almost 4-5 weeks then got a call for the job offer. Talk about nail-biting!

I applied for an ER PRN position prior to 2/20 had the interview about a week later and I am still waiting for HR to call (the ED director tells me she really wants me)

On the other hand, I applied for a full time ED position on 4/2/14 and had a phone call before I got home that evening for an interview the following morning. Today 4/3 I went in for the UA drug screen. So every facilities time line will be different. Patience is the key, easier said though.

If everything goes as expected, about 2-3 months from now you will be making your next post, something like "help I don't know what to do!" Then about 6-8 months you'll start to feel like you can get through most days with little or no help. Good Luck, hang in there when it gets really hard and really scary.
