Nurses COVID

Published

Although I think we all anticipated some exposures to appear, I'm distressed to read that one of the RNs caring for Duncan and wearing PPE has become infected.

I work at a big hospital about 5 miles away and my husband has already given me permission to quit if we get an Ebola patient. Scary stuff.

I'm sorry, your husband "gave you permission to quit?" SMH.

Local Dallas ABC affiliate WFAA reporter Janet St. James, a little spitfire, interviewed one of the critical care pulmonologists who cared for Mr. Duncan and the two infected nurses at PHD. I found this doctor to be thoughtful and compassionate, intelligent and calm in this interview, just as he was years ago when I worked with him.

The interview is 45 minutes long, but some of you may be interested to hear the perspective of someone who works at that hospital.

Presby doc on Ebola response: 'Epitome of health care'

Amber Vinson's family has released the following update:

Family: Dallas nurse Amber Vinson free of Ebola virus

Amber's mother, Debra Berry, spoke to her just a few hours ago. Amber is steadily regaining her strength and her spirits are high. We are overjoyed to announce that, as of yesterday evening, officials at Emory University Hospital and the Centers for Disease Control are no longer able to detect virus in her body. She has also been approved for transfer from isolation. Amber remains under treatment within Emory's Serious Communicable Diseases Unit.

"Amber and our family are ecstatic to receive this latest report on her condition," Mrs. Berry said. "We all know that further treatment will be necessary as Amber continues to regain strength, but these latest developments have truly answered prayers and bring our family one step closer to reuniting with her at home."

Amber is committed to continuing to work closely with the doctors at Emory and following their guidance until she has fully recovered. She and our family would like to thank the entire team at Emory, as well as Amber's colleagues at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas for their continued support throughout her treatment.

We appreciate everyone for keeping Amber in your thoughts and prayers.

What a really quick recovery! I am very curious about which treatments she received. Amber is not required to release this info, but it would be great if she did.

Thanks for posting about Amber, she looked "happy and healthy" in that picture of her in a hospital gown. I am sure she is so relieved as is her family!!

CNN has some new info as well.
