Sister Diagnosed Today With Bladder Ca..Need Advice

My sister went to see a urologist today and was diagnosed with Stage 0 Ca in Situ of the bladder. She goes for her preop tomorrow and will have surgery on August 1st, in which he states he is going to "scrape out" her bladder and that she may or may not require chemotherapy. In your experiences in dealing with this type of cancer, how effective is the above treatment?

My mom, a 65 y/o long term smoker (45+ years!) was diagnosed wtih bladder cancer two years ago. Her only sign was gross hematuria.

They took out her tumor through the urethra, no incision was needed. They broke it up somehow and sucked it out - sorry don't know the technical term. I would imagine this is similar to what your sister is getting. She goes for checkups every three months for the first year and yearly thereafter to check for reoccurance.

CseMgr1............I'm sorry to hear that about your mom. I do hope and pray the docs will be able to remove all the cancerous cells. If they are not able to, I pray the chemo she will receive will be beneficial to her. :icon_hug:

My sister is a smoker too, and her Dr. read her the Riot Act yesterday, telling her that if she didn't quit the tumor would reoccur. I think this has put the fear of God in her, and she is willing to do anything at this point, to get well.

On top of everything else, My daughter-in-law, who is 32 weeks pregnant with my third grandchild began passing bloody clots yesterday morning while she and my son and other two grandchildren were vacationing in Myrtle Beach. He rushed her back home and she is now in the hospital. Dr. says she and the baby are OK, and there are no signs of premature labor.

My mom has had several tumours removed over the years (yes, she's a smoker too). She never needed chemo and she's fine. I hope your sister is alright.

My sister underwent surgery yesterday afternoon, and her urologist found no evidence that the tumor has spread! :balloons:
