Specialties Urology

I am a nursing student. Just stared my first clinical semester this term. I applied for a job with Gambro (spelling may be off) as a Tech. I did a very, I mean very, basic online resume. Did not expect to hear from them but came home tonight and they wanted me to set up an interview.

Does anyone have any info/knowledge about them. The clinic is in Gadsden Alabama.

Also, the lady I spoke to on the phone did not seem very happy. Going just on the tone of her voice so I could be wrong. But, this makes me wonder if they are a good company to work for. I also have the feeling that the training will not work with my school schedule.

Thanks for any info.

I'm sure that different clinics have different dynamics going on in them, but my experience with Gambro was not a good one. I feel that their management personnel were ill trained for those positions, and as a result there were a lot of disgruntled employees, and high turnover rates. The clinic I worked at is in Florida, but I know other HD nurses in other Gambro clinics that have run into the same situations. If you are already having second thoughts, I'd have to say "GO WITH YOUR GUT"!!!!

Thanks for your input. I am going for the interview Wed. to see what they have to offer me.

And where I work, they came into town and offered the experienced nurses big bucks to come over to their facility. They were actually intending to shut down our facility! They are all about money, not about patients.

Went to the interview. They offered me the and I asked if I could shadow the other techs for an hour or so. After doing this I had to turn the job down. The money was what I thought but the patients families were scary. Several looked like they were in gangs ans such.

Thanks for everyones help. If you every need anything please ask.

I have worked for Gambro for 5 years and they are not too very bad.It is the people who make the company not the company itself.I too went to nursing school while I worked fulltime as a PCT and my manager worked very well with me.

Benefits are very well comparable to anywhere else. You just either love or hate dialysis. There is no in between and the company wont make any difference in that.

Good Luck to you.

I HAVE WORKED IN HEMODIALYSIS AS A PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN AS WELL AS REUSE TECH FOR A FREE STANDING CLINIC FOR APPROX. 6 YEARS AND FOR GAMBRO FOR ABOUT ONE AND A HALF YEARS. I AM NOW A RECENTLY GRADUATED LPN WHO ALSO HAS A BACKGROUND IN MEDICINE.

GAMBRO IS AS GOOD A COMPANY AS THE NEXT. AS A COMPANY THEIR POLICIES ARE VERY FAIR AND THEIR BENEFITS ARE VERY GENEROUS. IT IS TRUE THAT THERE ARE CERTAIN BAD DIRECTORS OR MANAGERS BUT THAT IS TRUE IN OTHER PROFESSIONS ALSO, EVEN IN OTHER MEDICAL FIELDS. WHAT IS CERTAIN IS AN INDIVIDUAL'S ABILITY TO IGNORE SUCH PEOPLE AND CONCENTRATE ON THE TASK. I BELIEVE THAT NURSING SCHOOL TEACHES ONE TO BE MORE IN PERSPECTIVE OF THE TASK IN HAND THAN EVEN MEDICAL SCHOOL.

PLEASE DONT THINK THAT I AM WORKING FOR GAMBRO. I AM JUST BEING OBJECTIVE. I FOR ONE HAVE A PASSION FOR DIALYSIS AND AM MOVING BACK TO MY HOMETOWN .....SOUTH FLORIDA AND WOULD LOVE TO GO BACK TO DIALYSIS AS AN LPN NOW.

IF OFFERED A POSITION I WOULD AGAIN WORK FOR GAMBRO. TO THE NEW NURSES REMEMBER GAMBRO IS NOT THAT BAD A COMPANY AS THE NEXT ONE. THE QUESTION IS DO YOU LOVE DIALYSIS?

Hmm, interesting reason to turn down a job. I would hope that everyone could receive good patient care regardless of the way they look, so it sounds like it is a good thing if you turned down the job if you cant get past appearances.

Sorry but I couldnt let this post go by without responding to it. I hope you have picked the right profession. Best of Luck to you!
