I Work County Jail. We Have Had A Female Booked In 4 Times In The Past Year For Stupid Stuff Like False Informing Etc. Each Time She Has Been Released That Very Day Because She Says She Has To Self Cath And She Never Gives Enough Info For You To Investigate And It Freaks Out The Officers So She's Not There Long Enough To Investigate. So She's Back And I Am Sick Of Her Useing This As A Get Out Of Jail Free Card. She Has Also Done This At All The Surrounding Counties. She Tells Me She Has An Internal Cath That She Connects To An Adapter And That Adapter To A 3rd Piece To Urinate. I Offer Her A 14fr Red Rubber Cath. "nope I Can't Use That" Then A Kendall 14fr 6.5 In Self Cath. " Nope I Can't Use That" No One At Her Home Knows What She's Talking About To Bring It In. We Contact A Friend Of Hers. He Seems To Know. He Goes To Her Place And Brings Back A Mentor 14 Fr 6.5 In Self Cath. She Swears She's Never Seen This Befor. She Has Not Voided Nor Bothered To Use The Catheters Offered. I Finally Get Ahold Of Her Urologists Nurse Who Says She's Never Heard Of A 3 Piece Self Cath Either, But Will Get The Chart And Call Me Back. Then Because Of Bad Weather The Family Doctor And Urologist Are Closed So I Can't Continue Investigating. Has Any Body Ever Heard Of This Type Catheter? If There's No Such Thing And She Sent Me On A Wild Goose Chase, I'm Gonna Charge Her With Malingering. I'm Getting So Tired Of Going All Out And Worrying For Nothing. I'm New To Corrections, And Learning Alot, But Not Fast Enough For Me. Thanks

I heard from the urologist. Turns out the inmate was feeding me a line.:stone

Of course, you can not always assume that an inmate is handing you a line. That is why you have to assess the situation well and obtain old records or talk to her outside doctors. It sounds like you handled this situation very well and checked out her story. I say, "Good Job."

My niece has spina bifida and must self-cath. I don't know about the device you speak of though.

thanks for the encouragement. i balled that girl out for feeding me a line of crap.

even a fool seems wise if he holds his tongue.

Sounds like you did an appropriate job of investigating and attempting to meet her needs! :balloons:

Even if she did self-cath, I don't see why that would keep her from being in jail ... I worked many years ago with another RN who had pretty bad MS and had been self cathing for some time (and I worked with her for quite a while before I found out -- I certainly hadn't noticed anything unusual about her). She carried her cath kit in her purse, in a small cosmetics bag, and worked full-time and did pretty much whatever she wanted to in her spare time, without the urinary problems limiting her ...

Hi - It sounds like the issue is closed for this inmate ,but for future reference: the funnel end of a 14 inch intermittent catheter will accept the adapter from a leg bag hose, so she could mean that she attaches the intermittent catheter to a leg bag.

Thanks.

Mike
