Hey all,

I'm attending the NCCHC conference in Vegas this month. Has anyone recently taken the general NCCHC exam? Just wondering how challenging it is. I'm studying from the Standards for Health Services in Jails book. Is that sufficient? Thank you for any input you may have.

There are several books that you need to study from as questions are taken from prisons, youth facilities, jails, etc.

Best wishes..........

Hmmm...the information implies you don't need the whole book collection to study for it. Have you taken the exam? Thanks for your reply.

I haven't taken it as I left corrections. However, you can go to the NCCHC website, click on the candidate handbook, and scroll down to Preparing to take the Exam and it will give you the information you need!

Thanks, have been there and it's a helpful site. Was just checking in with anyone who's recently taken it. I appreciate yor reply!

The company I work for, Armor Correctional Healthcare, encourages their employees to take this exam. We've had corporate office personnel take it and pass. If your policy and procedures are based on NCCHC standards, which most good P & P's are, you will probably not have any problem taking the exam if you are well acquainted with them. There aren't that many questions dealing with juvenile facilities from what I've heard. I will be taking the exam soon.

I just received my letter and certificate today...I passed! Just be sure you know all the time frames for seeing inmates, dental exams, etc. It's not hard if you know the standards. Good luck!
