Male vs Female Prisons

I have never worked in a female prison, nor ever care to. I have heard too many horror stories about how bad they are compared to male prisons. So.........everyone, do you work in a female or male prison/jail? and i am curious to hear about what it's like to work at a female unit, esp for someone who has worked at male units too, and compare. just curious...........

I work in a 1300 bed female max security DCC facility, not quite sure by what you mean about them being worse than a male facility. I know that we havless inmate assults on staff incident, But women are more needy , have > healthcare concerns and are more manipulative than I believe males are. Females seem to hve less respect for authority than mle inmates and are more vocal about their complaints. Women are also less likely to sue than their male counterparts, more mouth no action. That is what it like to work in a female institution in a nutshell. Any further questuions and I will be happy to answer them.

I couldnt work with women - I prefer to nurse men - give me a male patient any day. Let me rephrase that - I would prefer to nurse men anyday as opposed to women. Just wanted to clear that up.

I have worked in both. The women are definitely more needy, and they have all the female things to deal with....menstrual problems and pregnancy (I am NOT a women's health-kinda nurse). What I saw in the unit where I worked with females, is a tremendous number of seizures, and by far a greater number of faked seizures. Many were real, some were not, but rarely see the faked seizures in the men's unit. Women fight each other a LOT (Waaaaahhh...she called me a "fill-in-the-blank). Men just get mad or get even, and of course more sexual assaults, leading to physical injuries in mens units-and they tend to be worse than the women's similar injuries. But, the seizure thing was the worst. Women in prison have been abused and/or injured by violence. Many of the seizures are left over from those situations because there was head trauma, and I haven't studied it, but I suspect seizure disorders are more common in women. It was not unsusual for us to make a run with the stretcher for a seizing patient up to 3 times a day, and there were times when we went out 4 times a day. I'll take a men's unit any day.
