U.S.A. Connecticut

Hello, I'm a ADN student nurse from P.R and I'm about to graduate in May and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I need to have a permanent P.R( Puerto Rico) license to take the NCLEX or can I take it with a temporary license or without a license. Also I was wondering how much is the salary for a new grad in Stamford CT or is it better to get some experience in P.R then move to Stamford. See I'm confused can anyone give me some advice. :uhoh3:

Hello designer-mommy,

We do not speak any spanish at all. I will be attending Universidad de Puerto Rico Metro area. I have tried calling the department of education in PR to get a list, but I did not get any answer. The english schools I've found are private and very expensive. If you don't mind me asking, what is the name of the school that your daughter goes to? Any information you can give will be helpful..... thank you!

Are you going to UPR (Universidad de Puerto Rico) or IAUPR (Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico)? I ask because you say you don't speak Spanish, but I don't believe that UPR has an English nursing program. Also, I would think twice about UPR anyway, because they're always having strikes, etc. The tuition is wayyyyyyy cheaper than IAUPR, but it's not worth it IMO.

My children go to a public elementary school called Margarita Rivera de Janer in Gurabo. That's not the one with the bilingual program though. There's a school in the Hato Nuevo section of Gurabo that has a bilingual program, but it seems like spots are hard to come by. I don't know how well it would work if no one in your family spoke Spanish though. I was thinking if you did, you could help her with homework, etc.

I found the list I was talking about, but it's actually a list of private schools that offer either English or bilingual instruction. Underneath the "Idioma" (language) column, look for either "Bilingüe" (bilingual) or "Inglés" (English). Also, look under the "Nivel" (level) column for "Elemental" (elementary). I have found some very reasonable private schools, one was as low as $200 a month I believe. The thing that kills you with private schools is the start up cost though. Here's the link to the list:

What part of Puerto Rico are you planning on living in? Have you considered homeschooling? They do allow that here in PR, but I'm not quite sure of the legalities and what you need to do to go about it. I think it's fairly easy though. I know homeschooling is tough, but she's in 2nd grade, so it's a feasible option. Getting your nursing degree is going to give you and your daughter a brighter future, so try not to let the education thing stop you. I'm not saying to sacrifice her education--not at all. But children her age adapt extremely well, and she will do just fine. Anything is possible  PM me if you ever need my help with anything.

Designer-mommy,

I will be attending Interamericana Universidad. I don't know where I will be staying yet, hopefully close to my daughter's school but not too far from my school as well. Thank you, I will check out the list and also look into homeschooling... If there is anything else you find out or you think will help, I will appreciate it.

Thank you so much...this is a start!

Hi designer-mom,

I am a nursing student at the Interamerican Univ, if you need to find an apartment in PR, you can refer to classificadosonline.com its like craigs list. I suggest the Condado or Guaynabo areas their a little pricey but the closest you will get to living in the states.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
