Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing VS. St Vincent College

U.S.A. Connecticut

Published

Does any one have any information, experiences, or impression of Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing or St. Vincent's College for Nursing? I think I've limited my schools down to these two in CT and have been looking at both of them for awhile. I hear BHSN is competive to get into, is St. Vincent's as well? Does anyone know the total price for St. V's? I'm a little more impressed by St. Vincent's admission staff and candor but am still deciding. I'm looking at this from a second career perspective. Any info is greatly appreciated.

I was rejected from St V's because they wanted me to take a college level algebra course, even though i already had a BA in Sociology. I did get into BHSN and think that their program is better.

I am starting at Bridgeport in the Fall also day student, how about you?

Yes I am as well. I'm taking Micro and Speech this summer to get my non-nursing classes out of the way.

How is NUR 230 (Psych) at St. V's

Just graduated from St Vincents and passed the boards on July 3. I went to the evening program. Nursing 230 is half psych and half Neuro. St Vincents passing is now an 80 and I do not know that BPT is, but I believe it is less than that.

Passing at BHSN is 75, not a lot of difference. Bridgeport has a more flexible credit transfer system, and double the state requirement for clinical hours which means a lot more actual 'nursing' practice. Its a good program! I have accelerated through the summer and all going to plan, should graduate in December.

BHSN is a demanding program. There is no one 'best' program. You have to find the program that suits you, and that suits your learning style. I chose BHSN because it offered accelerated, its hard and its dynamic and I am wholly happy with my choice but its not for everyone.

I can attest to BHSN as a path for success (so far for me) but I know others for whom the dynamic of the school was not for them, both personally and academically. So, do more than think about transfer credits and pass marks... no one will care that you had to average 80 or even 75 when it comes to the real world but they will care about a well rounded education and a competant and confident nurse and only you can decide which program will help you achieve those things.

Hi,

How is Bridgeport's program thus far? Did you have to wait a long time?

Thanks and hope to hear from you soon!!!

Congrats eatothegb! I have an Associate in General Studies (GPA 2.7) and am interesting in a nursing program without a waiting list. Can you please tell me more about the Bridgeport program and also how is the TEAS test? Thanks. And I am sure that you will do well in the program. :)

eatothegb hasn't posted since June 2009, its doubtful you'll get a response from him/her.

there are quite a few posts regarding the Bridgeport Hospital program under the CT nursing program discussion section. If you can't find the answers you are looking for, you will probably get more responses to post a new post than to rely on this one. Hope this helps
