New Grad's and Jobs - HELP!!

U.S.A. Colorado

hello all,

i'm a new grad that's looking from jobs in the wonderful state of co. however, my search has left me empty handed. i'm getting very frustrated!

i see myself as a strong candidate for a new grad program. i graduated with my bsn, my gpa is a 3.86, i have passed the nclex, i have two bachelor degrees (my previous one in kinesiology - a health care related field), multiple health care volunteer experiences, i have cna experience and aprox. 3 years of health care related experience. with all of this on my side, i still can't find a job!!

i have had two interviews, one in az and one in co. of course, i didn't get either job! i feel that both interviews went very well. when i was notified that i didn't get the job in co, i asked for feedback. the hr recruiter said it was a very difficult decision, but they decided to go with an internal candidate. i understand the need to stick with internal candidates, but i need a job! this issue becomes even more frustrating when i find out that the individual who they have hired hasn't even passed their nclex yet!!!!!!!

due to financial issues, i have decided to start applying for cna jobs. i know that if i get a cna job i will grudgingly go to work knowing that i am not working to my full potential since i am technically an rn (since i passed the nclex). i thought about trying to get a job as an rn in a nursing home, but was told that many nurses who do that get stuck in the geriatric field. my dream of becoming a nurse is slowly dwindling...

please help!! any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Hey,

Check out Montrose memorial hospital on the western slope. Nice small hospital, at least 4-6 RN positions open at any given time. I've worked a lot of places in my 14 year career, and MMH is pretty good.

Hang in there Jellyfish111:D. I am in the same boat and have found myself getting extremely frustrated by the entire situation. However, I would like to pass on some info that I have received from nursing recruiters from many Denver area hospitals. I graduated in May (as many new grads did) and now unfortunatly there is a major influx of new grads. When talking with the recruiters they said that there should be openings this Fall. I know that is probably too long to wait but it feels as if that is the only clear answer I am receiving right now. I was looking for jobs even before I passed the NCLEX and still have not had any luck. I have now applied to about 50 jobs and have not had one interview. I have my BSN and have at least four years of CNA experience but still nothing. I know how frustrating it is so try to just hang in there for the meantime. Are you being broad with your search or are you just applying to a certain area within the hospital? I am interested in ICU but I came to the conclusion that in a time like this I may have to work in Med/surg unit to start with, which I am fine with. Keep your options open and keep the faith. You will get a job but it may just take a little time. If you decide to work as a CNA (in order to get your foot in the door) just make sure you are covered by laws that protect you in case something happens in your presence. Basically protect your nursing license because even though you are under a CNA status you could be charged for malpractice if you do something incorrect. They may be able to come back and say that you are an RN and therefore you should have known what to do. I have no idea if this is 100% correct but you have to be really careful these days. Check with the hospital and nursing state board first before you choose to go the direction of a CNA with an RN license. You worked hard for that so protect it as much as you can. You can do it. Good luck. So sorry for the long message. I hope this helped you.

Hello, I am having the same problem I have 2 degrees and I have worked in healthcare in Allied health, but have been out of the work force because of my children were youg. I passed the NCLEX at the end of April and have been applying with no luck. I have a BSN and live in the area. Are there other people out there with the same problem please reply.

YES... 2 be honest only 2% of my graduating class (from May 2009) have a job! I'm getting sick of people saying that I thought "nursing had a shortage:!!" I graduated with at 2.86 and experience like I said... I'm not quite sure what we have to do to end up with a real job! I have kiddos that need the support from thier mommy and I feel like I'm a looser!

Wow thank you for your response... It is quite scary what kind of trouble one can get into practicing medicine like one wants!!! I too want to get into the ICU but will be happy with any sort of job possible!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just feel like I am loosing skills that I learned and the hospitals have no idea what a loss they are experiencing.
